To Mask or Not to Mask that is the question?

Simple question, do you think wearing a Mask works to stop the spread of Covid-19?

Realistically, where is the US from a healthcare standpoint now? Going in to this we were ranked about the 30th best in the world. Have we moved down?

I had healthcare professional last March telling me I didn’t understand that we weren’t a first world nation when it came to public health.

We have the world’s best health care with uneven access. The debate is really do we want to reduce the level of care for 80% of the country to improve it for the remaining 20%. That’s pretty much the argument for every aspect of American life.

Welp. It’s this bit again.

where you define our healthcare by what is available for free to the public as opposed to capability when SHTF.

Wonder how many of those ranked above us came out with vaccines? We dominate the world in many treatments but public health experts want it all. The first rule of economics is scarcity. There isn’t enough of everything to give everyone everything they want. Some people have it all so all must. It’s never worked like that in history.

In absolute terms we lead the world in # of cases and deaths.
What do you mean by absolute terms? You mean total deaths & cases? We have the 3rd highest population. And you can straight disregard whatever numbers Chiba is reporting.

Spoiler: we’re not near the top of deaths per 100k, either.

Hello

I wish that graph had the percent administered of current supply and percentage of population. since as previously pointed out we have a higher population than most countries.

should be interesting to see how the graphs change as J&J rolls out.

The US population represents 4.5% of the world population. Perhaps we have 4.5% of the cases and deaths as well? Is that what your analysis indicates?

4.5% of the world cases would give the US 5,257,975 cases. 4.5% of the world deaths would give the US 116,695 deaths.

Google says there are 195 countries. The US is around #8 in per capita deaths, and that is not high?

OK we can say the accuracy of the numbers suck world wide, but there is still a reason why our numbers suck.

cases being positive tests? Because if a person goes and gets tested oh a rapid test and it’s positive, then gets a better test and again positive, it’s now two “cases”. The way we have been reporting numbers is to include any and all scenarios for COVID. Guy in hospice dies and gets tested positive for COVID, is now a COVID death. You really think other countries are that inclusive? Or are our politicians trumping up the numbers before an election to oust a guy they despised?

#2 and #3 (China and EU) have a higher population than the US. Much higher.

US has appprox 5x as many ppl as #4 UK, but given 4x the doses.

#5 india has much higher population than the US.

US had 1.5x the population as #6 Brazil, but given 9x the doses.

from 1 to 6, UK and US are #1 and #2 Per capita and #3 isn’t close.

Well when Trump said we had 200,000 deaths by COVID was he right? Do we blow off his numbers as well? Do you think perhaps he did not want inflated numbers either?

he didn’t determine how the numbers were accumulated. He had to use the numbers the officials used. Regardless how legitimate they are.

Do you think he would allow inflated numbers? There were articles where the administration deflated the number given by the CDC.

why would that information be useful except to find a way to say that what has been accomplished isn’t one of the greater achievements in medical history?

this is the problem, you think because he was president he can do whatever he wants including use wrong numbers. Apparently that’s left to the governors of certain states.

I have no doubt the numbers will be off. The numbers must be generated statewide then sent to the CDC. We need data from 50 states. There is no way the process is perfect.

it has been remarkable...again not arguing.....I think it would be interesting to see if one country was vaccinating a greater percentage of population and to study what they are doing similarly/differently. Percent vaccine admin would be just to see how fast we are able to give them vs how much is produced. Just more stat nerdiness than diminishing what has been accomplished

My point is that deaths/100k is a better metric for comparing nations. But honestly, I think you’re more interested in arguing.

Also percent vaccinated would be useful once J&J really rolls out. Since it is only one dose, percent vaccinated will be more informative on where we actually are vs how many doses have been given.

will need to define that term though, is it have received 1 dose of anything or completed Pfizer/moderna course.

Yesterday we had the lowest case count since 6/20... 32 fatalities reported (spread out over 6 weeks). Almost below 1k case counts. Even new probable cases, a metric I don't typically give weight, were down to 216. It's looking like no post freeze surge.

So what area is “we”?

ArmyTanker... berkson’s fallacy. Also, please get a vasectomy pronto.
I know of bergson’s paradox, but I think you’d be well served to illustrate how armytanker’s arguments fit that fallacy. Might be interesting.

You prove nothing by your post except that you are a prick. Let me ask you this. Does the US have the highest COVID cases and deaths in the world? Let me guess, you are a Trumper who thinks he did a good job preparing the nation for the pandemic.

I haven't seen this level of devotion by a new poster in a long time. The subtle mixture of American pride, ignoring all salient points, and doubling down on the ridiculous suggests that @ArmyTanker might've had a former life on here. Then again, this could just be his real thought process. Either way, it's fascinating to watch.

This has been a good discussion. Can we leave out the name calling and other derogatory comments please?

Your thoughts are vapid and inconsequential. It is irrelevant to the topics. Have you worked in National Disaster projects?
