To Mask or Not to Mask that is the question?

Simple question, do you think wearing a Mask works to stop the spread of Covid-19?

mask mandate here in singapore has me convinced. Very, very low community transmission. You dont go out of your house without a mask. 5.7M people in about 280sq mi - very densely packed. Yep, masks are doing the job.

Are people in Singapore fat? Also isn’t Singapore insanely clean?

I have been wearing a paper condom since March. Haven’t gotten anyone pregnant. Paper Condoms worked for me. I’m convinced. Oh, also ive had a vasectomy so no matter what I would’ve done nobody would’ve gotten pregnant.

Saying twitter is a bad source is what you call an ad hominem attack. There are good sources on twitter and bad. It’s just a medium for information.

Ok since you want to be so adamant about you being right. What do you know about the National Response Framework and does HHS have a Pandemic Plan? Who is supposed to provide overarching leadership of the large federal government Task Force for planning for National Disasters? What entities belong in that Task Force? Is the Army Corps of Engineers and Army North part of the Task force? How does the Task Force get DOD support?

Why do some countries have much lower pandemic metrics than the US? Was it appropriate for Trump to lie about the pandemic for weeks? Why was FEMA told to start planning the Task Force in late March. Why did the federal government wait until late March to create a cell to order PPEs. By late March we had no control over the pandemic. It controlled us.

- We failed to plan early.
- We failed to act early.
- Trump lied about the pandemic for weeks.
- By the time we started planning it was too late. The pandemic won as it took control of the country.

I could have done a significantly better job preparing for the US for the pandemic. Do you know why? I would have told DHS to dust off the National Disaster Plan and told HHS to dust off their Pandemic Plan. Trump and his administration failed to do these things.

To make matters worse Trump down played the risk by saying it would disappear, it is not going to hit us yada yada yada. In the meantime we have Trump, Pence, Dr. Fauci, Dr. Birx, Dr. Navarro, Mr. Atlas the trade minister yapping away and sometimes contradicting others or outright attacking the credibility of scientists. So not only did Trump and his administration fvck up the response but they fvcked up the strategic communications to the country with contradictory information. My ham sandwich has more intelligence than Trump and his administration.

Go ahead and argue all you want. The fact of the matter is the US has 4% of the worlds population and 20% of the covid metrics. Someone tell me why this is the case.

The US ranks 9th in the world in cases per 100,000 and 49th last week. We rank 11th in deaths per 100,000 and 22nd last week.

California is more crowded than Texas in that their cities are more dense. And they have more people overall. Also, there’s a shitton of Republicans that live there.

Texans are dumb for thinking there’s 80% or greater of liberals living there.

There are a lot of Republicans in Ca? They have not had a Republican Governor sense Wilson in 1999. 24% of registered voters in Ca are Republican?

In Singapore.

We can beat up every statistic out there, but no one talks about:
A) how the numbers are counted
B) how much freedom do you want to give up

you can manipulate those two categories and and effectively end covid within a month. If A and B aren’t equal across groups, it does little good to compare one group to another.

In the US we not only monetized suspected covid cases, we hinged the most polarizing election in modern history on it. If we were counting anything else, we’d all be laughing at the validity of these stats.

Here’s a good article about Singapore.

Interesting note from the article:

Singapore sticks rigidly to the WHO's case definition for classifying COVID-19 deaths. It does not include non-pneumonia fatalities like those caused by blood or heart issues among COVID-19 patients in its official tally.

"I have no doubt that if the WHO revises its case definitions, some of the non-pneumonia deaths will be reclassified and the mortality rate will change," said Paul Tambyah, president of the Asia Pacific Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infection, without specifying how much it would likely shift.

Anectdotal evidence is misleading...Singapore canes people, we don't. Caning saves lives...

Trump was damned if he did damned if he didn’t in response. Anyone saying he should have done more is suffering from hindsight bias. When he tried to do more he was labeled a xenophobic tyrant, yet when things got worse they begged for a tyrant? That would have gone over well. It was a no win scenario. Anyone who even remotely believes we could have done anything like New Zealand, Singapore, Australia, are taking a way too simplistic and naive view. That would be ignoring the logistics of movement in this country (not just illegal immigration, but normal travel for goods to support the population), more or less the political issues, and the underlying travel protections in the constitution. There is a reason Trump didn’t lock down travel to and from NY and why Biden didn’t for Florida.

Pelosi was walking around China town late February encouraging people to hang out and shop there after Trump had shut down travel to China, Biden on Feb 24 said don’t take the virus seriously. Most of the reason we have issues is because we are a fat country.

The fact of the matter is, who was the captain of the ship? It was Trump. Silly behavior by the democrats infinitely pales in comparison to Trumps preparation for the pandemic.

You’re relying on third world country reported data, along with a bunch of socialists country data. Both have reasons to not test like the US or label anyone that had Covid and died as a statistic like the US. It goes against their government authority model.

Research (AKA Science) has shown that only about 6% of these number that died only had COVID. For the other 94% they had underlying health conditions that attributed to their death.

My dad passed away last year and the likely cause of his shortened life was due to the Governments restrictions put in place reduced the care he needed to have - so in that attribute - I guess he died of bureaucracy.

What do you say about the US numbers?
I would say the US tests more than those countries and I would also say that I would like to see total death #’s in the US. This would include every person that died for any reason in 2020 and compare that to 2019

What defines a lock down? Malls and gyms are open in California. Dining with limited capacity. Sounds a lot like most everywhere else. I know lots of people in Texas who haven't been in the office in a year.
I haven’t been in the office in a year, but not because it hasn’t been open. Companies are seeing positive results with remote working that have nothing to do with Covid. We went from 9 floors to 2 floors which saved the company a substantial amount of cash.

here's another fun exercise:
take the 146 countries above, throw in china and india.

among things like civil rights atrocities, war lords, squalor, shitting in the street, pollution that would not be imaginable in the US, these 148 countries include over 10x the population of the US and almost 60% of the world's population.

...and only 210k covid deaths, which is 8% of the worldwide total, and less than half of the deaths in the US.

in light of the above, imagine using these numbers to judge the US response and then having the audacity to declare:
I could have done a significantly better job preparing for the US for the pandemic.

great job!

every death before was blamed on Trump by media and Biden so now every new death is Biden’s fault. Sorry to get political but rules are rules.
Thats not how any of this works but whatever. Then by your logic, Biden saved the nation because we were straight line up until he took over about January 20. He loves your support.

You don't know how the US should prepare for National Disasters and Pandemics. The US should have created a Task Force of the federal cabinets and agencies to include the DOD, ARNORTH, Army Corps of Engineers with DHS providing overarching leadership to the Task Force. The answer is quite a simple one -

The US reports every death where a Positive Covid is present as a Covid death - which is not happening elsewhere. Reporting of the deaths as Covid caused deaths increase funding and support money therefore, there is a financial and political causation behind these so called death rates being higher. California rates where higher earlier simply due to the travel from Asian communities into the West coastline.

If you think some of these turd filled 3rd world countries are better off in handling a pandemic then you just being duped. I am sure though if the US offered money for each confirmed COVID deaths to them, all of these numbers would change overnight.

If you get the COVID Vaccine make sure to wear your "I thank trump shirt" on the way out. Without the funding he put in place and the Govt restrictions he removed in order to get the vaccine process streamlined there would be no vaccine today. The removal of the restrictions played the key role, as simply throwing money at a solution never solved anything when the bureaucrats just get in the way of progress.

I would say the US tests more than those countries and I would also say that I would like to see total death #’s in the US. This would include every person that died for any reason in 2020 and compare that to 2019

Total deaths (all causes) per CDC:
2019 = 2,854,838
2020 = 3,408,972

You don't know how the US should prepare for National Disasters and Pandemics. The US should have created a Task Force of the federal cabinets and agencies to include the DOD, ARNORTH, Army Corps of Engineers, FEMA with DHS providing overarching leadership to the Task Force. HHS should take the medical leadership role. The Task Force's role is to determine how the federal government can help states and hospitals. It is also a means to find out what kind of support states need. Most basic of all, it opens up a line of communication with the states.

It is imperative to plan and execute early, but the US did not do that. From the chaotic response by Trump and the federal government, I will say they did not open up the National Disaster Plan and HHS did not open up their Pandemic Annex. Do you really believe our response was early and robust?

Early on Trump relied on Fauci - once he realized Fauci was an idiot and changed his mind with the wind direction so eventually Trump kicked him to the curb.

Fauci and WHO :

The virus not airborne
you don't need a mask
only healthcare workers need mask This was likely the biggest problem statement Fauci ever made.
Please stop purchasing masks
only a N95 mask works
Only healthcare workers should be allowed to buy a N95 mask
ohh crap we all need mask
but you don't need a N95 one please don't buy them all up for yourself
--- The world has no toilet paper --- Okay threw that one in for a laugh ---
Everyone should have a mask - (apparently we were making them out of excess TP)
wear a mask when you leave your house - (silly but still see those idiots wearing one on a walk with no one 100 yards from them)
But wait wearing 2 masks is more effective.
We all just need to stop breathing

Fauci is the smartest dumb ass I have ever seen - I can't believe anyone still listens to him at all.
