To Mask or Not to Mask that is the question?

Simple question, do you think wearing a Mask works to stop the spread of Covid-19?

Would you prefer scientists stick with whatever they originally believe and never change their minds? I don’t understand that approach.

He said in March of 2020 “wearing a mask might make people feel a little bit better and it might even block a droplet, but it's not providing the perfect protection that people think that it is.”

The next month he said, and has now for a year, that was not accurate info for a novel disease we didn’t know a lot about.

I don’t understand the hate for changing a position. We don’t use leaches anymore or think the sun revolves around the earth because we learn and change. I’d think that’s what we want scientists to do.

Lol. What Terrible points. Fauci has said a million things and is consistently going back on what he said. The point is not that he shouldn’t be able to change his mind. The point is that he’s constantly wrong and we shouldn’t listen to the next thing because odds are it will be wrong.

The government and private industry are using mitigation techniques for something that has killed more Americans than WW1, WW2, Vietnam, and 911 combined. But let's keep talking about this issue. I'm sorry you have to wear a mask, nobody likes it either. Next question?

Masks mandate lifted and cases keep dropping. HTH.

Not exactly sure, but there is some interesting points and actual facts in there.

I have worn a mask since day 1 and think it is completely useless to stopping the spread in any meaningful way.

The only thing most mask do is give the wearer a false sense of security and brings out hands closer to our face. Keeping good distance goes out the window.

Masks are a con job cooked up to make us think we were doing something important and as a control devise (now used for political purposes). If we all wear n95 correctly it may help but it was decided it would have put the medical profession in danger which is correct. So here we go still wearing masks with the vaccinations like a theater of fools.

You’re talking about the current liar in chief or the previous?
Mostly this strange love affair the left seems to have with Fauci. The guy isn’t all that impressive of a physician and seems to be more political than anything. The whole damn nation followed the guy and any advice he’s given seems to have an expiration date. Everyone in the government in down listened to the guy yet he seems to not get any blame for anything. He’s a political hack

How many people die each year in the United States? So if the average number of deaths is lower next year what would that tell you? A certain amount of people are going to die each year regardless of cause. Using scary comparisons of war is the mouth of propaganda.
Not sure I follow? We have pretty good data on expected deaths per year. We tend to have about 2.5% more deaths per year every year based on population growth and age. 2020 we had 23% gain in deaths.

Not sure a single Trumper listened to Fauci because Trump hated his guts for not downplaying the virus. When Trump got covid, man he was pretty giddy. He isn’t political, he is a doctor trying to give medical advice.

Every “Trumper” I know tried as best they could to follow the guidelines so your little BS post is typical crap from the left. We were locked down as a nation to flatten the curve. Remember. That seems to me like it didn’t work when you compare the different states and their reaction to it all. Cali, NY and other states ran completely by democrats top to bottom had much worse outcomes than say Florida. Were the democrats in those states not listening to Trump and Fauci or was it only Trump supporters that didn’t listen? Curious what your take is as the numbers don’t support any of this crap. You think those Europeans were listening and ignoring lord Fauci? Why are they still having such hell? Were they not listening to Trump? You think if dementia Joe’s dumb crooked azz was running shit we would even have a vaccine by now? He’d still be telling everyone that shutting down travel from hotspots around the world had something to do with race. You and your democrat friends seem to ignore the tens of thousands of people storming our southern border where there are no masks and this virus is running rampant through that population. Are those “trumpers” that didn’t listen to your lord Fauci?

1. Everyone downplayed the virus at first.
2. Policy was shaped by Fauci and other’s reccos.
3. If Trumpers didn’t listen it would just be mostly Trumpers getting the virus and yet a lot of lib states did very poorly and minority communities which didn’t vote Trump did poorly in many cases.

When your whole world view is orange man bad you have to pigeonhole everything to fit that. You have to be smart to do it and you are.

I’m not a democrat just to be clear. By AggieYell standards I’m a socialist for not using Fox News as my compass.

Yes really fast to all that, population density. Why is Fauci the bad guy for trying to keep more people alive?

I’ve been Republican my entire life. Still a big fiscal conservative but the last election I really viewed Trump as voting for ignorance so I did the pussy thing and voted for no one. Wife gave me a ton of shit but I was like yikes “I’m out”

I think both parties suck right now. Each party seems to be drawn too far left or right while most of us are just moderates.

Happy Easter! Disagreeing makes the off season more interesting, no?

I hear you but you don't come off as a moderate. Given Biden is suppose to be a moderate I understand.

I don’t like Biden either. He is basically president by default. Democrats realized the party was too far left and overnight said look, the Obama retread guy will win this. The moment the political advisors said he wild win, Trump started creating conspiracies on why he would lose.

Do you think I I want higher taxes? Do you think I want more government in my face? Most of us just want to be in the middle and not feel like we are voting for the Empire in Star Wars. Trump lied to us all day everyday, that’s not cool but became normalized.

I would really like the party to improve and attract new voters over trying to blame others. The country is changing and the party needs to change too.

Fauci isn’t a bad guy because he was “trying to keep more people alive “. He’s a guy that has been anointed as some sort of hero when he was consistently wrong. Trump followed his advice almost to a tee. Trump got all the blame and he was listening to and implementing Fauci’s plan. I am not convinced that there should have ever been a lockdown in the first place. It did not flatten the curve and I think it had done more damage to our children and the population as a whole who needed to be out working and earning a paycheck. Meanwhile Fauci gets to go to baseball games and not wear a mask and no problem. Fauci seems to be some mythical figure that can’t get anything wrong yet he is pretty consistently wrong. Seems to me the only true qualification he had was that he didn’t like trump and was pretty vocal about it. Didn’t matter that he was wrong on so many things and flip flopped on others. I’m sure he’s a very nice guy but he’s a politician playing Dr. otherwise he would have had a better track record

I suggest you think about what you post and defend in light of what you post being a republican (conservative) and all. I'm sorry buddy you don't come off like a right of center guy or I'm living in never never land.

Perhaps that could mean you are way further right than you believe?

The left has moved more left and the right has moved more libertarian. Trump was basically about as conservative as Bill Clinton. Look at gay marriage. Obama, Biden and Clinton all opposed it ten years ago. Amnesty for illegals. It’s all moved to the left. This talk of cancelling student debt, $15 minimum wage, reparations have all been discussed in some form forever but never seriously until now. If this gets this post moved to sports forum please delete instead.

still waiting. I have “friends” who are “Republican lobbyist” who sound exactly like you. I can honestly say I’m done with the Republican Party. I have no political home and so be it. I bit my tongues and voted for mittens and John McCain but never again. And I’m not alone

Get over the mask. When I used to work at a small-town grocery store they had a sign that said, "no shirt, no shoes, no service". GTF over it. Tired of drama and stupid "freedom" bullshit. It's relentless. How many need to die so you decide to wear a 10 cent mask for 20 minutes at the grocery store? We are at 550K. If it doesn't work I'm sorry. It's a ridiculous argument. Do nothing? What's the proposal?

So your premise is that Fauci has been head of CDC Infectious Diseases for 30 - 40 years and he doesn't know what he is talking about when it comes to masks. He just learned of them over the past year. Right. That's who I want running my national response to a pandemic.

The mask is nothing. The issue is why are we still doing it?

I’m getting to personally dislike maskers. I don’t want to, and realize it’s not right. But we’re just fundamentally different people and I blame them for so many of the economic and other problems we now face.

I also seriously resent their control over my personal choices. I don’t even recognize where and who “we” are today.
Maskers represent all walks of life. You’re not fundamentally different because there’s people like you that won’t feel so burdened or psychologically put out by wearing a mask during a pandemic.

I give maskers a wide berth. I prefer to receive their scowls from a distance.

CA has been locked down. My sons live in LA and SF. Still not going to office for over a year and no end in sight. They are locked down.
I’m in Texas and we haven’t been to our office for over year per company guidelines.

I'm sure I'll get killed for this, but I don't care. The logic behind wearing a surgical mask is a based on initial thoughts that the virus can only be transmitted through airborne droplets and surface contamination. And if true, it would make sense.

But it's now apparent that the virus is transmitted through aerosolized particulates, which basically renders surgical masks ineffective. Look at it this way - the reason Fauci initially said not to purchase N95 masks is because they are not effective unless properly fitted. Physicians actually have to get certified for this.

Now think about the fit of a surgical mask. It's such a bad fit I've got condensation all over my glasses and air running out of all sides. Sure, a surgical mask is going to catch a certain percentage of the virus, so it's really a matter of what viral load is necessary to for transmission. We didn't know the answer last time I checked, but the massive spread suggests it's pretty low.

Finally, what do you think is more likely to get someone sick: the guy across the room or the surgical mask he's kept in his car for a week?

Now I don't believe there's some nefarious conspiracy behind the mask mandates. I think it's more a matter of politicians needing to point to something they've done to combat the spread. As for the rest of us, some people cling to the notion because they're afraid and it makes them feel safe. It makes some feel like they're more compassionate or intelligent. And to be fair, some people are adamantly opposing masks for the same reasons or just to feel like they are fighting against the power.

However, I do not believe that a cloth or surgical mask is really any defense against COVID. If it were, we'd see much different numbers in the US.
You’re leaving out the assumption that masks are worn correctly.

The question is whether masks help stop the spread of Covid. That’s a broad term. A spreader wearing a cloth mask might still spread Covid to two people while traveling by plane (or at a crowded event) but would he have infected 20 without a mask? If you think that is or could be the case, then the answer to the question is yes.

It amazes me we can provide real world data on why it doesn't work and you guys continue to ignore and follow up with a study.
The per capita stuff isn’t real world data attributable to mask wearing, at least not in this country. The data assumes infected people were around people with masks. Once Covid got a foothold it was going to spread. Mask wearing helped the individual but the population was screwed as long as infected people put themselves out in public. Mask wearing likely stemmed the tide but it was not going to push Covid down or eliminate it. Especially since a good portion of this country was too busy deciding whether Covid was a hoax or triggered by some perceived loss of freedom.

Suicide were up
Heart and stroke deaths were up.
more people would be alive if not locked up and kept from seeking preventative treatments.

We know your side always needs someone to blame and then use hindsight like you’re smarter than everyone else, but this fetish with Fox News is what is silly. The left shames, attacks and spreads propaganda like y’all receive a news letter of daily talking points with your morning coffee. Think for yourself.

Making of a voting base is a power play and so many are playing the part of a pawn.
More stimulus checks should fix things right up.

Your right, the country was trying to figure out if it was all a hoax. You had Nancy dancing around in China town, Chuck calling Trump a racist for blocking foreign travel. And then all of a sudden they switch sides... we all know the reason they did a 180... they found an angle, like dirty politicians do. Well, common people are smart enough to recognize this BS and hence a divide was created.
