One of my closest friends is a surgeon with a system in Tampa and his observations are that probably 90% of those unvaccinated in the hospital are obese (whether they think they are or not) and a solid majority have undiagnosed & untreated type-2 diabetes, high BP, and high cholesterol. But almost universally these people said they were "in good health" or "felt fine" so they never went to the doctor.

Why is it so difficult for you to understand that there are people that don't want to shoot some crap into their body that has been proven to have significant side effects, up to and including death? Since I am a healthy person without underlying conditions, I would rather take my chances on getting this FLU variant than taking a lifetime supply of booster shots with each one posing more and more risk. And it's been proven that people that recover and have natural anti-bodies will have a longer-lasting/more durable immunity to current and future strains.
I cover the pediatric icus so I’m not super familiar with them to be honest. Just talking to my adult colleagues it does seem many of the younger patients are obese though.
He could have just said they were average Americans. The rest of that would have been assumed.

Doesn't make the distrust of them wrong. Especially given the numerous documented cases where they presented false or misleading statements and perpetually flip-flopped with no evidence behind them. That so many people still trust them given all the collective fck ups is pretty fascinating to me.

I don't give a fvck about their political affiliations or which administration they've worked for. I'm referring to the fact that the CDC, WHO, and Fauci in particular have consistently and persistently misled the public. Whether it was intentional as some sort of "noble lie" or they just didn't have the data the misinformation they've spread (do we need to revisit Fauci's absurd mistruths regarding masks?) has destroyed their credibility.
And the fact that so many people evidently trust individuals and organizations which have been repeatedly proven to be far less than truthful is pretty frightening. And yes, people trusting misinformation is what allowed the Nazis to perpetrate their crimes in the 1930s while people looked the other way or dismissed them as rare events.

BTW what I have stated about Fauci is not an opinion, it's fact. You can argue the semantics over whether or not he's "responsible " but his involvement is a simple fact, not an opinion.

I am, however, willing to concede a high degree of incompetency coming from many of our elected officials and the health officials that were hired into those positions by these same elected officials. I'm correct. The efficacy is low for the paper masks that you're talking about but they still stop ~10% of aerosols. Better masks work better but masks do work.

Of course that's what I'm saying. Ideally, we'd use better masks but 10% is better than nothing, which is what is generally suggested after proclaiming that "masks don't work".

The question that matters is do they stop transmission. I think that's what most people are referring to when they say they don't work, although I can only speak for myself. Put it this way, if the vaccines were 10% effective, you would say this isn't the answer let's move on to what's next.
We have had a long time now though. The government could have been busy procuring or producing n95 masks to distribute. I would agree that this would make a difference on transmission, even though I'm almost positive I got covid while wearing a kn95 mask.
I don't disagree with your last paragraph but a 10% decrease in aerosols is still something. My preference would be the KN95 and above were ubiquitous and people were educated on how to wear them.
