Steve Spurrier

Smart guy:
The Longhorns are currently a 6.5-point favorite over the Aggies, but the health of Texas QB Quinn Ewers could change things. An MRI confirmed the junior signal-caller is battling a mild ankle sprain, and though he’s expected to start against Texas A&M, his health is something worth watching.

With so much at stake for both teams, former Florida Gators head coach Steve Spurrier believes this game has upset alert written all over it.

“I’m going to go for the upset — A&M,” he said during an appearance on “Another Dooley Noted Podcast.” “[With] 110,000 [fans], it’s one of the biggest ballparks in the country, and now they’re screaming and yelling. Jimbo [Fisher] couldn’t get them screaming — they’re doing it now. So, it’s home field advantage A&M, so I’m sort of taking A&M with it.”

Let’s play the hypothetical scenario

Without knowing how the season ends let’s assume Elko decides to make changes to the staff at the end of the season. Who’s safe? Who’s getting let go? Who do you replace them with?

This is what I have so far.

Safe:
Offense -
Klein (OC), Taylor (RB), Cushing (OL),

Defense -
Aristide (DB), Jerod-Eddie (DL)

Undecided:
Wiggins (WR), Spencer (DL): both most likely to be retained

Let Go:
Bateman (DC/LB)

Possible DC Replacement:
Santucci, Fuller, Aranda (if fired by Baylor)

Staff Needs:
Passing game coordinator

If you want to know how the aggies are in over tu and UT when we beat tu..

This is it! The week you’ve been waiting 13 years to see.

The rivalry between the Texas A&M Aggies and the Texas Longhorns is one of the most storied in college football. Here are some key facts about this historic matchup:

1. Origins and History

• First Meeting: The rivalry began on October 19, 1894, with the Longhorns winning 38-0.

• Series Record: As of their last meeting in 2011, Texas leads the all-time series with 76 wins, 37 losses, and 5 ties.

• Conference Rivalry: Both teams were members of the Southwest Conference and later the Big 12 Conference before Texas A&M moved to the SEC in 2012.

2. Thanksgiving Tradition

• The rivalry was often played on Thanksgiving Day or Thanksgiving weekend, becoming a cherished part of Texas football tradition.

3. Memorable Games

• 1927 “Game of the Century”: Texas A&M secured a 28-7 victory in a game where they debuted their “12th Man” tradition.

• 1998 Upset: Texas A&M defeated the No. 6 Longhorns 26-24, ending their hopes for a BCS National Championship.

• 2011 Finale: In their last matchup before A&M’s SEC move, Texas won 27-25 with a game-winning field goal by Justin Tucker.

4. Traditions and Symbols

• Aggies’ Bonfire: The annual bonfire built by Texas A&M students symbolized their “burning desire to beat Texas.” The tradition was paused after the 1999 collapse tragedy but remains a powerful symbol.

• “Horns Down” vs. “Hook ’em Horns”: Fans from both schools use hand gestures to symbolize their rivalry, with Aggies often mocking the Longhorns’ “Hook ’em Horns.”

5. Conference Realignment Impact

• The rivalry was put on hold after Texas A&M left the Big 12 for the SEC in 2012.

• Renewal Announcement: With Texas set to join the SEC in 2024, the rivalry is expected to resume, reigniting the storied tradition.

6. Cultural Significance

• The rivalry divides families, friends, and communities across Texas, with fans fiercely loyal to their respective schools.

• It’s about more than football, symbolizing the deep-seated competition between the schools’ academics, traditions, and pride.

This rivalry has been a cornerstone of Texas sports culture, and its return is highly anticipated.

As Much As Last Night Had

To hurt there's only a handful of teams that control their own destiny and A&M is one of them.

With the new 12 team playoff system we have to think of it like we do for basketball and baseball.....just get in the tournament and start kicking ass.

If you knuckleheads go on a run starting Saturday at home and win the whole thing no one will remember you had 3 loses in 2024. All that will be remembered is Texas A&M was the 2024 National Champions of College Football and has the trophy to prove it.

Coaches Weekly and Post Game Press Conferences Excuses

It seems that in every weekly and post game press conference we hear the excuse that coaches need to coach better. We need to motivate better. We need to execute better. It’s the same whether it’s Elko, Fisher, Sumlin or whoever. During those conferences the question is never raised to why that’s not happening. We just let coaches get by with the same party line crap.
Coaches have been with these players for spring camp. Fall camp. 11 football game weeks and 13 season week practices. When in the hell are we going to coach better, teach better, motivate better to play 4 quarters of football?
Our D line supposedly has nfl players all over it. We have a player from Purdue that lead his conference in sacks last year. Yet we can’t make a tackle. We cant sack a QB. We can’t stop a team from driving the field in less than 2 minutes to tie the game. We have DBs that are watching the ball fly over their heads for TDs. What the hell is the reason
We have lost 2 night SEC games to inferior teams where we fell behind by 17 and 21 points before we even thought of scoring. Why? Are we so non motivated than we can’t wake up. Are our coaches being outcoached? If we can’t get up and motivated to play for a conference championship and a playoff birth we don’t belong on the field.
Our opponents are not scared of us. We are not respected by The SEC, ESPN,ABC, or Finebaum because we don’t produce. We don’t succeed. We don’t show up at games. Not sure if we belong. We are a 8-4 team. We have always been and always will be until we stop accepting excuses and mediocrity.
Elkos press conference today will be like all the others. Same excuses leading to same results. Non of other coaches are seriously held accountable. Is large amounts of NIL money worth mediocrity? Is paying a coach 7-10 mil a year worth it?
Not sure at this point. Hope someday our coaches are put on the spot.

My biggest concern is seeing the small cracks

First off, I want Coach Elko to have the time needed to get this program to where we all want it to be. I’m not advocating for throwing the baby out with the bath water after one year.

I think my concern is that you’re seeing small cracks already.

- Defense getting absolutely destroyed in consecutive SEC road games

- Offensive coordinator not adapting scheme to fit his QB (my opinion)

- Losing games that we must win to get us to the top of the SEC

It’s imperative that Elko fix these ASAFP. If he doesn’t, the small cracks become huge holes that he won’t be able to recover from.

I think Elko has at least four years, but I do not want this to be another failed head coaching experiment.

Halftime observations

Garbage. Absolute garbage.

I don't know what else you can say. It's been absolute garbage. A&M looks totally unprepared, intimidated and not overly interested. And this team is not good.
Payton Thorne is a trash quarterback and he's looked like Tom Brady. He has completed 7 of 9 passes for 190 yards and 2 touchdowns. That's 27.1 yards a completion. Cam Coleman has absolutely humiliated Dezz Ricks. He's over 100 yards and has two scores. The A&M has done a good job limiting Jarquez Hunter's efficiency, but it hasn't mattered at all. Thorne is picking A&M apart, and I can't figure out what on earth they're doing defensively. They're looking completely lost, and their pass rushers are running themselves completely out of plays. It's slop.
Oh, and their tackling sucks again.
Offensively, they've actually moved the ball pretty well. Auburn's defense has done a good job stopping the big run, but A&M has been able to get consistent positive yardage. Marcel Reed is taking off too early, and that's caused him to miss some wide open receivers. He's also not showing very good vision, because he keeps cutting inside when he could get more yardage by going out.
Jahdae Walker has been the guy so far, catching four passes including two for first down. They've made some plays, but not enough when they need them.
The Aggies do get the ball to start the third quarter, so maybe they can do something. But that last weak drive after the shanked punt was a huge disappointment. That had to be points and they didn't even get any yardage out of it.
Right now, A&M is playing worse than a bad football team. Defensively, they need to get their crap together immediately, because this is two straight crap performances against lower-tier SEC offenses. They are not playing close to their reputation as a "good" defense. Right now, they're bad.

It's gut-check time. Let's see if A&M has any.

FOCUS ON tu

that’s all that matters

Regroup. Never speak of it. Move on.

How many Aggies do we have left to mount a cavalry against the most hated program in all the land?

Raise your glass or your hand and show you are capable and ready to march to Aggieland in spirit or in flesh.

End your Aggie to Aggie bickering and Claim your focus to hating all things Longhorn on this thread.

It’s time to mount up. No time to lament. We have an SEC championship on the line! A playoff spot on the line.

And 12 or is it 13 LONG YEARS WAITING TO DESTROY OUR MOST HATED RIVAL!!!!
