Marcel Reed

Wow this kid was good this past weekend, sorry fellas I was indeed in attendance and let me say that Reed looked legit, every fan I talked to in attendance said he looked calm and poised and that’s exactly the two words I said after the game.

Now, today I know that Reed went with the first team due to Conner not practicing/limited. I haven’t been told anything, but I expect Marcel to start this weekend.

Debate reaction

Much as I want to vote for Trump and much as the debate questioning wasn’t balanced, I thought Trump’s performance was appallingly bad. There were so many opportunities to challenge Harris on policy issues on the economy, on energy, and on foreign policy. Instead, it was unhinged rambling hyperbole. He gave a gift to Harris. I think he may well have lost the election tonight. Sad.

Miles O'Neill's arm?

Let me get this straight. All through camp, y'all have been saying the O'Neill's arm is another level above all the other QB's?! Wow! I saw a nice gun on Marcel during the game. To say that O'Neill's arm is that much better is quite the statement! On the TD to Allen, the ball was in the air for about 40 yards, and Marcel was going to his left, and had pressure coming! I am sure glad we got him away from Ole Miss.

Elko press conference notes

Notes that they had two drives start inside the 10 that went for touchdowns.
Said this was the game with the most effort and strain the team has shown since he returned.
The end of the game, especially on defense and special teams, was not acceptable.
Says Bowling Green "is very dear to me", as he was the DC there for five years. His family loved it there.
Has gone against coach Scott Loeffler three times.
Says they have a really talented group on offense, including QB Conner Bazelak.
Says the defense plays like a group, that they're very comfortable in their scheme.
Calls them "talented at every level" defensively.
Says Tyreek Chappell was off to a great start at nickel, that he was showing tremendous talent. He's not going to move Bryce Anderson back to nickel, but they'll look at some corners to see if they can play there.
Says he learned what it takes to be a DC at the D1 level while at Bowling Green, and probably has more connections at that school than anyone else.

Conner Weigman is day-to-day or week-to-week.
Says the secondary wasn't bad, but wasn't great. They're still learning how to play coverage in this system.
Says he asked the offensive line to be the identity of the football team. Says they had that in 2020, and that this group is starting to embrace that too.

As for Marcel Reed, says he goes through the up and downs like the other quarterbacks, and he has a skill set they can work with.
If Chappell wants to come back, he can simply redshirt. No medical needed.
Says this weekend is a "Must-win night game at Kyle Field."
Notes that the team overcame adversity, with the stupid penalties, the lightning delay, recovered from the Florida TD to start the second half. But they made plays all the way through the Pick-six.
Says he hopes to have Koli and Trey Jones will be ready to go, but they'd be listed as questionable at this point if they had to do an injury update.
Says Weigman will probably be a gametime decision. They are re-imaging his shoulder today to make sure nothing was missed.

The other woman

I wished I had read this 20 years ago! I am posting it hoping maybe some of you are glad you did.

After 21 years of marriage, my wife wanted me to take another woman out to dinner and a movie. She said, “I love you, but I know this other woman loves you and would love to spend some time with you.”
The other woman that my wife wanted me to visit was my mother, who had been a widow for 19 years, but the demands of my work and my 3 children had made it possible to visit her only occasionally.
That night I called to invite her to go out for dinner and a movie.
“What’s wrong, are you well?” she asked. My mother is the type of woman who suspects that a late night call or surprise invitation is a sign of bad news.
“I thought that it would be pleasant to spend some time with you,” I responded. “Just the two of us.”
She thought about it for a moment, and then said, “I would like that very much.”
That Friday after work, as I drove over to pick her up I was a bit nervous. When I arrived at her house, I noticed that she, too, seemed to be nervous about our date. She waited in the door with her coat on. She had curled her hair and was wearing the dress that she had worn to celebrate her last wedding anniversary. She smiled from a face that was as radiant as an Angel’s. “I told my friends that I was going to go out with my son, and they were impressed,” she said, as she got into the car. “They can’t wait to hear about our meeting.”
We went to a restaurant that, although not elegant, was very nice and cozy. My mother took my arm as if she were the First Lady. After we sat down, I had to read the menu. Her eyes could only read large print. Half way through the entries, I lifted my eyes and saw Mom sitting there staring at me. A nostalgic smile was on her lips. “It was I who used to have to read the menu when you were small,” she said. “Then it’s time that you relax and let me return the favor,” I responded.
During the dinner, we had an agreeable conversation — nothing extraordinary but catching up on recent events of each other’s life. We talked so much that we missed the movie. As we arrived at her house later, she said, “I’ll go out with you again, but only if you let me invite you.” I agreed.
“How was your dinner date?” Asked my wife when I got home.
“Very nice. Much more so than I could have imagined,” I answered.
A few days later, my mother died of a massive heart attack. It happened so suddenly that I didn’t have a chance to do anything for her. Some time later, I received an envelope with a copy of a restaurant receipt from the same place where mother and I had dined. An attached note said: “I paid this bill in advance. I wasn’t sure that I could be there; but nevertheless I paid for two plates — one for you and the other for your wife. You will never know what that night meant for me.”
“I love you, son.”
At that moment, I understood the importance of saying in time: “I love you,” and to give our loved ones the time that they deserve. Nothing in life is more important than your family. Give them the time they deserve, because these things cannot be put off till “some other time.”

QB’s at Practice

We kept hearing how the qb competition really wasn’t that close and Weigman has looked great at practice. How much live action scrimmage with hitting allowed on the qb is done in practice?

My hunch is that it’s basically zero and allows some qb’s a false sense of security in practice and makes them look a lot better than they perform in games. That could also be magnified if a qb is coming back from a significant injury.
