We did have a nice economy with higher taxes but the economy also improved with lower taxes starting in the 80s. The real problem as I see it is that we don’t have as many really good paying middle class jobs for those without college degrees (though they exist). Goes to the point that our economy has majorly shifted in the last 70 years. To go back we’d all need to be prepared to pay more to buy goods made in America. I’m willing to do that but most aren’t.
We went 30 years with a high tax bracket for the 1%. Reagan included huge tack cuts for the middle class. W did the same thing and it’s something this president refuses to do. He spent 2.3 trillion on a tax plan specifically designed for the 1% and cooperations. Remember before mid terms trump promised a tax cut For the middle class and as soon as mid terms were over we never heard about the middle class tax cut ever again.

Payroll tax cut gives you back 7.5% of what comes out of your paycheck. Unless yOu work for the federal government the odds are very low you will see that tax cut. I work for Kroger and has top opt in to the tax cut. If Kroger opted in they would have to pay the taxes for every single employee. the odds of that happening nation wide are close to zero. Both sides suck and there should be term limits on everyone.
I get the math. When I made partner I had to pay both sides of those taxes. When I finish paying it for the year, it’s like getting a raise. But we need those taxes because we are in deficit spending as it is.
completely Agree that we are in deficit spending but where would we be if we hadn’t spent over 2 trillion on a tax cut for the 1% and cooperations. We need to get back to a balanced budget something much harder to do since the benefits to the tax for the 1% and cooperationo don’t ever expire.
