SEC falling in line behind CFP proposal

The 16 member schools seem to be aligning behind the idea of a 5+11 arrangement for the expanded CFP. That would be the four major conference champions plus the AAC and 11 at-large bids. The SEC and Big 10 were both pushing for four automatic qualifier spots in the 16-team playoff, but the other conferences would have made that extremely difficult. This way, they may get more teams in and the other conferences may be more amenable to making this deal. I know a lot of you hate SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey and you got a lot of company this week, but he's got a bully pulpit and he's trying to use it to the benefit of the member schools.

A look at next week's official visitors and where A&M stands

5-star CB Brandon Arrington:

Major competition: Washington, Oregon, USC
Where A&M stands: It's a little tougher to gauge West Coast talent, but A&M has reportedly been in good shape with Arrington for some time. He's official-ing at Washington this weekend and UW is really pushing hard, but my concern remains Oregon and their deep pockets. But I've been assured A&M can meet Arrington's (current) asking price. He is planning to announce a commitment July 5. Independence Day weekend will be HUGE for A&M.
4-star John Turntine III:
Major competition: Texas, Michigan, Stanford
Where A&M stands: I think they trail Texas, but the fact that he's kind of expanded his horizons by adding officials to Ann Arbor and Palo Alto indicates (to me) that he's not totally locked in with Texas. Still, they're the leaders and A&M has work to do.
4-star LB Tai'Yion "Tank" King:
Major competition: Texas
Where A&M stands: Unless something goes terribly wrong, A&M is way ahead here. He has his commitment date set for July 4.
4-star LB Malik Morris:
Major competition: Florida and Miami
Where A&M stands: trailing the in-state schools (he's a Florida kid), and UF especially. But Jay Bateman loves this kid (I'm a big fan too), because he brings the heat. The Aggies are the sole out-of-state school considered a threat, and they're going to try to let him know that the NIL love is there for him if he comes to Aggieland.
4-star Nickel Bralan Womack:
Major competition: Ohio State
Where A&M stands: Ohio State is waaaaaay ahead. The goal here is to slow his roll to Columbus.
4-star CB Dorian Barney:
Major competition: Penn State, Michigan
Where A&M stands: Unless something has changed, the Aggies have the edge here. He's been pretty clear about that since late last year. He is also set to commit July 5, so this Operation Seal The Deal.
4-star OL Zaden Krempin:
Major competition: Texas, LSU
Where A&M stands: Krempin has not been very outspoken about his recruitment, but I would think he's a Texas lean at this point. A&M has work to do. I personally think they're third for him, so to say this visit is massive for the Aggies is not an understatement.
4-star WR and A&M commit Aaron Gregory:
The goal here is to show the love, keep him locked in and get him to tell Texas to stick it with respect to an official.
4-star WR and LSU commit Jabari Mack:
Let's see if he actually shows up. But if he does, then the goal is to put a bug in his ear and talk about possibly joining an incredible wideout class with Gregory, Madden Williams, Mike Brown and (cough cough) Boobie Feaster.
4-star OL Samuel Roseborough:
Major competition: Texas and FSU
Where A&M stands: they're on the rise, but the other two schools have been well ahead for him some time. A great visit is imperative for A&M if they're going to have a shot in this thing.
4-star QB and A&M commit Helaman Casuga:
He's coming to town to not only make his official, but do some recruiting. Arrington, Gregory and Mack will likely be his primary targets.
4-star RB and A&M commit Jonathan Hatton Jr:
Time to shower the big back with the love and make sure he isn't interested in anyone else. Not that he's shown any interest in anyone else.
4-star DE and A&M commit Jermaine Kinsler:
Just make sure he stays in the circle of trust and start talking about their plans for the next few years.
