What a difference a week makes
After hearing -- and seeing -- all summer how good Conner Weigman was practicing, he was awful Saturday night against Notre Dame. While he's still going to be the starter tomorrow (barring something crazy), I was told Marcel Reed did get some first team reps this week. Part of that was just to get Weigman calm and steady, and part of it was to make sure Reed is ready to go. It also kind of settles the discussion of who QB2 is between Reed and Jaylen Henderson.

More Moose?
I've already mentioned that several people have said Weigman was under the weather last week. He wasn't the only one; Moose Muhammad was also reportedly sick as well. He was limited to 7 snaps and no receptions. I don't think he's going to start tomorrow -- they like the three they have out there -- but hopefully he will get some more reps.

Offensive line stays the same around Faaiu
Koli Faaiu will take over at center for Mark Nabou, who was lost for the year after getting hurt in the first half last week. The rest of the lineup, however, remained healthy and will be out there tomorrow. So that means Trey Zuhn, Chase Bisontis, Ar'maj Reed-Adams and Dametrious Crownover.

Notable absence Saturday night
Senior transfer Solomon DeShields, who was expected to win the job next to Taurean York at linebacker, did not play at all against Notre Dame. Simply put, he didn't know the defense well enough to be out there. And, with the performance of Williams (and, to a lesser extent, Sanford), it may be tough for him to get serious playing time. He'll have to step up if he gets a chance this weekend and really shine.

McNeese's QB iffy going into Saturday
Cowboys starter Clifton McDowell is reportedly banged up and a gametime decision for tomorrow's matchup with the Aggies. There's at least a chance that McNeese, looking ahead to more winnable games, holds the dual-threat quarterback out. If McDowell can't go, they'll turn to redshirt freshman Kamden Sixkiller, who was splitting time with McDowell anyway.
And he's not good.

Baseball picks up elite '25 commit
Pearland High SS/RHP Nico Partida was committed to Arizona State until fairly recently, when he pulled the plug. He visited College Station last weekend and, last night, announced he was committing to the Aggies. One of the top prospects in Texas for 2025, Partida has primarily been a power-hitting shortstop, but has also pitched a little. During that "little" period of time, he's hit 97 on the gun. How Michael Earley and company intend to use him will be interesting to see.

Former A&M assistant fired at Memphis
This one stinks more than a little. Penny Hardaway wiped out his staff of assistants yesterday, including Rick Stansbury, after a whistleblower claimed Hardaway himself had been involved in recruiting violations. Stansbury, if you'll recall, was Billy Kennedy's top assistant and ace recruiter from 2014-16, when he took the top job at Western Kentucky (which he held for seven seasons). I don't think Buzz will pick him up, because there are no ties and he's got a full staff, but it's pretty dirty pool by Hardaway.
