Current roster count
A&M has lost two players to the portal, WR Ernest Campbell and TE Eric Karner. They're looking at receivers and the proverbial "best players available", but are trying very hard to not tip their hand. Here's the current makeup of the roster (scholarship players only, so no Randy Bond):

QB (5 scholarship players): Marcel Reed, Jacob Zeno, Miles O'Neill, Brady Hart, Eli Morcos
RB (6): Le'Veon Moss, Amari Daniels, Rueben Owens, EJ Smith, Jamarion Morrow, Tiger Riden
TE (5): Theo Ohrstrom, Kiotti Armstrong, Amari Niblack, Nate Boerkircher, Micah Riley
WR (9): KC Concepcion, Mario Craver, Terry Bussey, Ashton Bethel-Roman, Izaiah Williams, TK Norman, Kelshaun Johnson, Jonah Wilson, Jerome Myles
OT (6) : Trey Zuhn, Dametrious Crownover, Deuce Fatheree, Robert Bourdon, Lamont Rogers, Jonte Newman
OG/C (11): Ar'maj Reed-Adams, Chase Bisontis, Mark Nabou, Koli Faaiu, Papa Ahfua, Ashton Funk, Blake Ivy, Marcus Garcia, Tyler Thomas, Josh Moses, Nelson McGuire

DE/JACK (8) : Cashius Howell, Dayon Hayes, TJ Searcy, Marco Jones, Rylan Kennedy, Solomon Williams, Kendall Jackson, Sam M'Pemba
DT (8): Albert Regis, DJ Hicks, Tyler Onyedim, Dealyn Evans, Jaydon Scarlett, Landon Rink, DJ Sanders, Chace Sims
LB (7): Taurean York, Scooby Williams, Daymion Sanford, Jordan Lockhart, Tristan Jernigan, Noah Mikhail, Kelvion Riggins
S (7): Bryce Anderson, Dalton Brooks, Marcus Ratcliffe, Jarred Kerr, Myles Davis, Jordan Pride, Rashad Johnson
CB/NICKEL (11): Will Lee, Tyreek Chappell, Julian Humphrey, Dezz Ricks, Jordan Shaw, Jayvon Thomas, Bravion Rogers, Deyjhon Pettaway, Adonyss Currie, Jamar Beal-Goines, Cobey Sellers
ST (2): Tyler White, Jared Zirkel

By my estimation, that puts them at precisely 85 players. So, if they want to add via the portal, there will either have to be expanded scholarship numbers (which is possible if the House v. NCAA settlement is reached) or there will be more cutting.
