Elko press conference notes

Says Rueben Owens needs to get his timing back, that it does take a while to do that if you’re out for four or five months. Says it doesn’t matter that Moss and Daniels are out, he would have gotten his reps anyway.

Says the secondary needs “to clean up” the scheme, make sure they know and are doing what they want them to.

“There’s not a person in the building who was excited with how we played on defense down the stretch.”

At DT, there’s “healthy competition”. Says spring is critical to get better at football, and that there are more padded practices in the spring than the fall, and this is the time when the most improvement can happen.

“This is really the time where fundamentally, physically, the mentality, the technique, like all of that stuff, gets developed now.”

They’re starting to develop defensive packages around what they have, and they’re evaluating where guys like M’Pemba or Searcy fit in.

“You got to give them the chance to play it out and see what it looks like, and then just kind of formulate the package around what the strengths and weaknesses really totally are.”

Says they’ve got to throw the football at a better level if they’re going to improve.

Says he will have “a bigger role” in the defense. Says he has plenty of confidence in Bateman (and Hemphill) but “an identification of a problem that needs to be solved and believe I can help solve it.”

Says Armstrong and Niblack may get used in a big receiver role, but also mentions Ashton Bethel-Roman and Jonah Wilson as players who could contribute on this situations.

WiFi Extenders/Boosters

We are currently building a house and plan to have Starlink when we are done. We have a metal building and an RV parked right at 50 yards from the back patio of the house. My question is, what is the best way to get WiFi from the house to the metal bldg and RV? From what I've read, an outdoor extender seems to be the way but I'd like input from those that are more technologically savvy than me. Also, if you use an extender, does it pick up the current signal and transmit or do you need to provide a hard data connection?

Offense notes

QB- Marcel Reed throwing motion looks a lot better in Videos and I know that’s something that he wanted to work on in the off season. From some people he looks more mature.

RB- Rueben Owens looks quicker and healthy and a lot bigger. Was hoping to see that from him this season. For he can be a every down type of back.

WR- The three names I’m hearing the most is Ashton Bethel-Roman, Mario Craver, and KC Concepcion. Ashton has gained a lot of muscle and looks very good, if he was at the combine right now I’d predict a 4.3. Yea, he’s that type of quick.

I'll Just Leave This Here_Shane Calhoun at Pro Day

Shane Calhoun, utilized as an inline blocker during his one season with Texas A&M, only reeled in 3 receptions for 57 yards but entered the program as one of the faster tight ends with plenty of athleticism. However, no one expected his 6'4", 250-pound frame to produce a lighting 4.43 40-yard dash, a 39-inch vertical, and an 11-foot broad jump.

Calhoun has proven to be an exceptional athlete who will likely become a low-round draft selection or a priority undrafted free agent next month. However, if a tight end running a 4.43 40 was on the roster last season, why wasn't he utilized more in the passing game? That won't be answered, but it's always great to witness undervalued players improving their football playing value on the big stage.

Compared to the tight ends who participated in last month's NFL Combine, here is how Calhoun's performance ranks among those players:

Shane had himself quite the Pro Day. When comparing his numbers to the tight ends at the NFL Combine last month, Calhoun ranks first in the 40 (4.43), first in the broad jump (11-0) and tied for first in the vertical jump (39 inches).

Do our coaches have eyeballs?? Are Collin Klein and Mike Elko blind?? 3 catches with that athleticism.

A meal or dish that you miss

So the other cooking thread got me to thinking. What is a dish or dishes that someone in your family, who has passed on, made that you miss and can’t replicate?

For me it’s my grandmothers roasted potatoes and pork loin. She would half the potatoes and coat them in the pork loin drippings so that the outsides carmelized and crisped while the insides stayed perfectly cooked. A little butter and sour cream on that! Damn.
I can cook a mean pork loin, but I’ve never been able to get those taters cooked like I remember them. Always overdone and dry when I try it.
