Trump's Tariffs

I'm just going to say a couple of things.

First, why would any rational nation even negotiate trade policy with the United States?

In his first term Trump threatened Canada and Mexico with tariffs. They negotiated, made concessions, and Trump boasted of his "perfect" new NAFTA. Trump now breaks that deal he made. What is the sense of Mexico and Canada negotiating with him again? He'll just break any new deal on whim. Trump has made the United States an unreliable and dishonest trading partner.

There is no value in negotiating with a nation such as our own. We can't be trusted to keep any agreement we make.

Second Trump has imposed these tariffs with no objectives or conditions for removal. He did not contact either the leader of Mexico or Canada to tell them what they could do to avoid tariffs. He still has not. Which gets us to this next level batshit insanity from Trump.

Trump is now linking the tariffs to Canada completely surrendering its sovereignty. In a Truth Social post Trump claimed Canada is not a viable nation without massive American subsidies (I have no idea what he is talking about) and concluded that:
"Therefore, Canada should become our Cherished 51st State. Much lower taxes, and far better military protection for the people of Canada — AND NO TARIFFS!"

Put simply, Trump is claiming that tariffs are the cost for Canada being a nation free and independent of the United States. It's economic warfare, a sort of invasion by tariff. In so doing Trump has made it much harder for Canada to not fight back. Canada is no longer fighting for its economy. It is fighting for its very existence as a free nation and people. How do Americans benefit from forcing Canadians to do this?

This imperialism by tariff is a threat to every free nation in the world. If Canada caves, Denmark and Greenland will be next.

Trump thinks national identity is negotiable. Can you imagine if another nation pulled this garbage on us? How Americans would feel?

MAGAs did your really vote for this garbage?

Elko pre-spring press conference notes

Says they're excited to get back out on the field, and hopes to build off the positives from last year and to clean up the issues that cost them.

Injuries: Tyreek Chappell, Jayvon Thomas and Scooby are out for spring.
Amari Daniels, Ar'maj Reed-Adams and Le'Veon Moss are also out. Freshman Jamar Beal-Goines and Josh Moses will also be out for the spring.

Says Micah Hudson is not with the program.

A&M will continue to have a spring game, at least until they make the semifinals. Doesn't buy the "poaching" stuff.

Says he believes Sam M'Pemba has a lot of upside and hasn't played his best ball yet. Very excited to add Dayon Hayes and Tyler Oneydim up front.

Says Humphrey and Shaw are both "quality kids who can cover."

Wanted more physical, point of attack tight ends. Says Amari Niblack has "unlimited potential" as a pass-catcher. Does not refer to Texas, just "his previous school".

Wanted playmakers at receiver. Said he knew KC Concepcion from Duke and that A&M's corners thought Mario Craver was the toughest cover last year.

Said getting a QB was a tricky situation without an open competition, and he was happy to get Jacob Zeno who has experience and a lot of arm talent.

Says the challenge is to ensure that they do a better job of imparting their message to the defense, and he wants to improve that. His bowl game frustration was more with himself. Says getting Hemphill was an opportunity to get another guy in who can work with the defensive backs and a move towards the "new world" of coaching staffs.

Says Concepcion is lights out, has tremendous quickness and acceleration. He's clearly excited about getting Concepcion in.

Says they're much further along from a "day one standpoint" compared to last year. "We're at a higher starting point, so we've got to continue to build on that every single day."

Wants to see a greater comfort level with Reed in the offense that you're supposed to see from year one to two, and to be the "master of the offense" -- faster reads, smarter reads, more accurate throws.

Mentions Bussey, Bethel-Roman and Izaiah Williams as taking another step and becoming bigger contributors this year.

"Terry's a wideout now." Says that Bussey was banged up when he got on campus and never really got fully healthy. "I think you saw scratches of the surface of what he's fully capable of." Says he expects Bussey to take a really big jump. "We've got to get him settled in as really good wide receiver."

Mark Nabou is back. That's impressive.

They're going into spring ball with 20 offensive linemen (some walk-ons). Mentions all of the top 7 back and says they believe in all four redshirts from last year: Blake Ivy, Ashton Funk, Papa Ahfua and Robert Bourdon.

"We want a program where people are a little unsettled, a little uncomfortable, knowing they have to compete every day."

Beating Keithdb to the punch... Trump third term?

Yes, Trump is serious about running a third time. Yes, he would need a constitutional amendment. No, the chances are very slim it would pass congress although it would might pass the states.

Is he a dictator? Will he invoke martial law or cancel elections like our democratic darling Zelensky?

Enquiring minds want to know.
