I was thinking back on a few players who for one reason or another either left on their own accord during a semester, others who were dismissed from the team, or others who were not only dismissed from the program but were also sent packing by the university. Know of a couple of Corps guys who repeatedly violated multiple rules and were kicked out of the Corps during the semester. One was allowed to move in elsewhere (a fraternity) and continue his studies. Another was kicked out of the university for the remainder of the semester with readmittance conditional on counseling. He did not make it back.
What is the protocol for a student/athlete who simply quits during the semester? Is his scholarship immediately revoked and must pay the university back? Does he/she get to finish the semester with no reimbursement to the university before saying bye?
Then what happens when a student is dismissed from the team for 'violations of team rules'? Remember one who was shown the door for inappropriately revealing his goods to a tutor. Another for not going to class and had multiple team issues (and getting stoned). What is the protocol here for being dismissed for repeated violation of team rules? I think in the past, some have been allowed to complete the semester if the university is not kicking them out. However, if they are told to leave the university, do they have to pay anything back? If it is more serious, i.e. robbery and weapons, is the athlete allowed to complete the semester, or do they have to leave immediately? Does the university seek reimbursement for tuition, fees, and board if they are told to leave during the semester?
I realize some of this is case by case determinations but is there a protocol?
