Apparently, they did more harm than good. Who could have predicted that?

Lockdowns had little or no impact on COVID-19 deaths, new study shows
Lockdowns in the U.S. and Europe had little or no impact in reducing deaths from COVID-19, according to a new analysis by researchers at Johns Hopkins University.

The lockdowns during the early phase of the pandemic in 2020 reduced COVID-19 mortality by about 0.2%, said the broad review of multiple scientific studies. “We find no evidence that lockdowns, school closures, border closures, and limiting gatherings have had a noticeable effect on COVID-19 mortality,” the researchers wrote.

But the research paper said lockdowns did have “devastating effects” on the economy and contributed to numerous social ills. “They have contributed to reducing economic activity, raising unemployment, reducing schooling, causing political unrest, contributing to domestic violence, and undermining liberal democracy,” the report said. “Such a standard benefit-cost calculation leads to a strong conclusion: lockdowns should be rejected out of hand as a pandemic policy instrument,” the paper concluded.

Although the dead rate may only get reduced very slightly; but the sheer number of cases was reduced hugely. Hence, the actual number of deaths was also hugely reduced!

It is sad we have had this discussion many times on here with our contingent left taking the status quo and as I'm sure the rest of us knew the "science" would evolve to the out come of this study. Many lost their lives because of the political foolishness.

Cases were reduced?

Really? Every reputable study puts about a 5x multiplier on the actual infections vs. positive tests. Given the fact that there have been almost 76MM positive tests that's 380MM. While there are certainly now proven cases of reinfection (almost universally mild) that's more than one covid infection for every man, woman, and child in the US.

So how did any of those efforts reduce cases?

It’s actually impossible to prove the death rate either way. I guess we could compare to a country that didn’t lock down?

now the part that can be proven.
Suicide rates
Divorce and abuse
Drug and alcohol abuse
National debt
Education system failing leaving some kids behind

It's the Washington Times but it says what you want it to say so, roll with it.
Here's The Atlantic also saying what I want it to say on a related topic.

I find it very interesting, and quite frankly sad, that most of the population continues to wear masks of all kinds, including N95s and equivalent. There have been multiple empirical studies and now multiple left figure heads, multiple health figures, multiple left networks that have now stated that masks don't work. One would think by now that with their lords and saviors now stating that fact, that masks would start wane.

Yet, here we are. I walk into the SW Austin HEB and 75% of the patrons are still masked up. I see multiple families where the parents aren't masked but the kids ARE. The freakin' kids speech therapy business across from my place doesn't have ANY of the adults employees wearing masks but they mandate the kids wear masks at all times unless in therapy! I actually discussed their policy with them once and it was like talking to a brick wall.

Sure, sure. As long as masks are optional, I'm ok with it, but now I associate anyone wearing a mask with a Bill Engvall "Here's Your Sign".

I think the unknown is going to be the underlying issues the mask wearing caused our kids.

The Gov scared the crap out of our kids and adults.

At the gym the other day, a guy with mask, gloves, double layered warmups, was spraying down the machine with so much disinfectant, that it was dripping off each machine and then he would cover it in towels and then workout. I see him later in the locker room with all of his gear laid out on the counter and he was spraying them. Just absolute lunacy.

What they did to our children though is criminal.

stopped reading because it's long and you are full of shit.

Weird post. It happened under a republican in the US, but more fundamentally the article talks about 186 countries.
That said Republican never called to mandate masks or vaccinations.

Now, the current Democrat in office has uhh well you know... done the things and IS VERY ADAMANT ABOUT THE GENERAL HEALTH OF THE UNITED AMERICA OF STATES. don't you get it guy? c'mon man. He's only here to help.

Yeah it was Trump that came up with the lockdown and mask policy, not the long time government "specialists" that advised him on it.

These stories always come out a few years later and the facts are always what we thought they were from the start. The media prints the truth in hindsight on the back page of their shitty newspaper that no one reads and most liberals are annoyed anyone wants to talk about it at this point. Rinse and repeat. See Russian collusion

I think a post blaming dems for the lockdown both in the US and in 186 other countries is weird.

every single one of these states had a D gov in 2021 and all but NC went biden in 2020.
