Who is the bigger d-head: Steve Patterson or Bill Byrne?

Patterson is a dipshit and everyone knows it now, but I contend that Byrne was a bigger shithead. He was just more entrenched in our f*cked up system of good ol' boy handshakes and utilized our own loyalty and tradition to keep himself hanging around until it was almost too late. If not for Stallings, R Bowen Loftin, and a few guys who put their foot down and refused to let him continue his decade of terror, we'd still be locked into an underperforming, underwhelming, and wasted mountain of donations.

Under him, our football program was a laughing stock, and he only perpetuated it by telling us that we just didn't understand how to build a program like he did. He routinely made deals with Texas/Big 12 to the detriment of our school, and tried to shoehorn us into the Pac12 just because his son was an AD out there and because he promised DeLoss Dodds he would. He THREATENED a guy over the phone for a "rude" email, and then left a fake telephone number so the guy couldn't call him back. He engineered a fake extension for Dennis Franchione under the guise of a "donation" Fran made back to A&M, which he demanded back as part of his severance. Do you realize that he almost locked us into a deal with Texas as a partner of the LHN, where they got something like 75% of the money/programming and we only got the rest, but he feigned outrage when people inside the program began to ask questions? He tried to make it like he was thereafter mortal enemies of Texas and even tweets snarky shit about them from time to time, but that's all phony...he's doing that as a facade because he was losing support within the AD and was trying to fake like he wasn't on the side of the sips who were directing his every move.

They played him like a puppet, and he went right along with it.

Bill Byrne put out a weekly newsletter talking down to our fanbase like we were idiots, and what's even worse is that he didn't even author it. MicMac, the filthy mechanic that Fran lugged around from place to place as his biographer, was the guy who wrote it each week, and when it came out that Fran's VIP Newsletter (that MicMac also wrote for only a select few of "trusted insiders" included private injury info that could be used for betting purposes) may have violated NCAA rules, guess whose name was at the top of the list of recipients? That's right, William F*ckface Byrne. He fired MicMac for the newsletter and used it to leverage Fran out, but he KNEW ABOUT IT THE WHOLE TIME.

His bonus structure was based on non-revenue sports, so guess where he spent his time? That's right...while A&M was getting busted up AT KYLE by Arkansas St under Mike Sherman (who never should have been even considered as a head coaching candidate), Byrne was getting bonuses for results by the cross country team or the tennis team. And despite all this, he raised ticket prices for football games.

He ran off our best basketball coach ever, and then had the audacity to hire a guy who hasn't sniffed the NCAA tournament since he was hired. When the SEC deal was in play originally, he bolted on a university plane to Idaho when the SEC officials were in College Station to meet. He fought for Mike Sherman to keep his job, and when it was obvious that he wasn't going to be retained, this asshole called Kirk Bohls before it was official to let him know to blast out that Sherman was getting fired. KIRK BOHLS, the senior mouthpiece for Texas, got the scoop, which hit while Sherman was out on a recruiting trip. After the story came out, Byrne called Sherman on his cellphone, the infamous "call to the driveway of the recruit's house", to let him know he was getting fired because someone let it leak before Byrne could tell him in person.

He met Mark Johnson in the parking lot after a game wearing shorts and sandals and fired him in front of the team bus before he could get on. Then, in a display of complete and obscene arrogance, had his f*ckboi Arte McFerrin DEMAND that Byrne gets his name on the new baseball stadium, using a withholding of future donations as ransom. Meanwhile, the athletic department under Byrne was in such financial distress, he had to take an interest free loan from the school to keep from going so far into the red we couldn't come out. What did he do after that? He:

-built more non-revenue facilities (which his bonuses were tied to)
-gave himself a raise (!!!!)
-had departmental-wide layoffs to meet the lopsided budget

Do you realize that if Elsa Murano, the worst university president ever created (despite having an epic set of beautiful uptops), hadn't called him out on the loan and shoddy business practices, he was going to continue his course of no-win business ad infinitum?!?

Everyone will say Patterson is an asshole, but he was brought in to try to stop the plummeting monolith from hitting the ground. Patterson was charged in sweeping up the mess of cronyism over 20 years that led to a monster too big to not fail, and when he did they didn't like how he did it. Byrne was brought in to help resuscitate a department, and it turned into his own doomsday cult with the bodies of loyal Aggies all around him who drank his own version of maroon kool-aid, then he told the rest of us we were "bad Aggies" for not drinking it.

Meanwhile, his stupid name is still up on the ballpark. Recognize, Ags.
