I thought we had a chance to come back. Two plays might have changed that.
1) Alabama has the ball on their 48, 7:30 left in the 3rd, 3rd & 11. Screen pass to Henry who catches it 6 yards behind the line of scrimmage. Alabama has two blockers to our three defenders in front of Henry, with one defender in close pursuit behind Henry. Others in the area. One defender gets blocked the other two dives and whiffs. Others run to follow and finally tackle Henry. Result, Henry runs down to our 34. First down. Great play by Alabama.
2) Alabama has the ball on our 26. 5:05 on the clock in the 3rd. Play clock running down. Alabama looking confused. Their sideline is trying to call a time out. Our Defense bunched up at the line. Secondary guys looking at each other and pointing, appears not ready. Armani Watts pointing, just hanging out around the line backers on the weak side. Alabama counter toss weak side sweep to Henry who catches the ball 7 yards behind the line on scrimmage. Watts first two steps are backwards. Henry blows by Garrett who bit inside. Watts then shoots toward Henry and whiffs. First down. Great play by Alabama.
Two great plays by the Alabama offense to keep their drive going. Our defense played a lot better after that first quarter, but to me those two plays had they gone different..who knows. Alabama ended up kicking a field goal on that drive to make it 31-20 and killing the momentum that we had built up prior.
That all said, when your QB throws 3 pick sixes, you won't win the ball game.
