John Burns’79 was born in College Station in 1957 and died today at Md Anderson surrounded by family and friends after a 15 yr struggle with cancer. Johnny was my friend going back to the third grade. When you picture an Aggie dressed in all maroon that’s Johnny. John was a drummer in the band and was General Ramirez’ roommate in the Corp. John was the local manager for Lamar Outdoor and possessed one of the most clever, funny minds in the business. John carried business cards from Lamar that said “Fooling Harvard grads for forty years” . His owners were Harvard grads. John kept all of us in stitches around the campfire and in the deer blinds.
john had season tickets to football and rarely missed a game in 47 years. John volunteered as a track judge at A&M for fifteen years. We were in each other’s weddings, raised our children and grandchildren together. Johnny adored his wife Patty and their children. Johnny loved to hunt and fish in his spare time.
How do you find words to describe someone you love so much and loved A&M so much.
Rest in peace, John Allen Burns ‘79
