I spent 3 hours on Sunday going through the Reagan presidential library in Simi Valley. When you see Reagan’s complete body of work along with his many speeches. you realize what a great president and communicator he was. I wish there was another Reagan around. I want to re-iterate what a great communicator Reagan was.
There are a lot of similarities between Trump and Reagan.
For those that forgot Reagan’s main beliefs and what he based his presidency on, see below. I wrote these statements down verbatim:
Reagan’s core philosophy was smaller government, lower taxes and a strong national defense. And he continued his crusade to help Americans believe in themselves again.
There were millions of Americans who suffered through nearly a decade of economic hardship by 1981. President Reagan inherited a country during disastrous recession with sky high interest rates out of control inflation, massive un-employment , and other problems tested Americas resolve. He was determined to bring about recovery by liberating the native, energy, ingenuity, and entrepreneurial spirit of the American people.
“America has lost faith in themselves”
“We need smaller government, fewer regulations, lower taxes and a stronger military.” Besides dealing with the Russians and Chinese, Reagan was also dealing with the new threat of terror from Iran.
“American revolution, reborn”
“America must reform the welfare system”
“America needs to be energy independent and rely on no other country.”
“The national debt must be reduced.”
Championed economic freedom and providing more jobs. Unemployment was over 7%.
“You will have to go around the legislature and sell your programs straight to the people.” Reagan did this as both governor and president
One of Reagan’s main campaign sayings was “Bringing America Back”.
Remember the strike of the air traffic controllers??? The strike of the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Association on August 3, 1981 was President Reagan’s first national emergency. The controllers contract specifically prohibited strikes, and the walkout threatened to paralyze the nations’ air travel. In a show of good faith, President Reagan gave the controllers 48 hours to return to work. If they didn’t, they would lose their jobs. On August 5, he fired over 11,000 strikers. That day, he showed that he would uphold the rule of law and stick to his decisions regardless of how unpopular they might be. What would Trump or Obama/Hillary do in this situation?
Reagan’s economic scorecard from 1981 to 1989: Inflation fell from 12.4% to 4.6%, Unemployment fell from 7.4% to 5.2%, Federal income tax for the top individual taxpayer rate was cut by 50% to 28%, Mortgage interest rates dropped from 15.4% to 10.3% (WOW), Tax Receipts-total tax receipts doubled from $517 billion to $1030 billion, income receipts from $347 billion to $549 billion, the economy grew for 96 consecutive months.
President Reagan’s Economic Plan – When Ronald Reagan took office, the economy, and the nations spirt needed reviving. He had a plan to breathe new life into both - by cutting taxes, reducing federal regulations, limiting federal spending, and keeping the money supply tight to discourage inflation. A vigorous economy served two purposes. It helped Americans improve their lives and renewed their faith in the future. It gave the U.S. the economic might to rebuild its military and act boldly and confidently in defense of freedom.
I am not suggesting that Trump is another Reagan. But can anyone argue that Trump’s agenda is very much like Reagan’s?????? Blast away
