Miami has to run

If you watch the highlights from the Confusion Bowl last week, you'll notice two things: Miami (Fla.) does a real good job of running off tackle, primarily to the left, and Miami (Ohio) absolutely sucks with their run fits. They'll pile a bunch of guys right in the middle of the line and have no one on the edge, or they'll just have massive splits that Miami can drive a truck through as the linebackers look confused. That makes it extremely easy for the Hurricanes to pick up a lot of yards.
A&M can't allow that tomorrow. They did a very good job shutting off runs off tackle against New Mexico, and they'll have to do the same tomorrow.
I titled this "Miami has to run" because I don't think their passing game is going to be good enough to carry them. They're a short and intermediate passing team, but New Mexico helped A&M prepare for this by running a lot of the same concepts. The Hurricanes got the ball out quickly against Miami, which makes me think they're worried about their line holding up. So they need to run and control the clock.

Experience matters

Last year, we saw the Aggies get pummeled at least in part because they were so young and inexperienced. Miami is dealing with something similar. They have not only a lot of freshmen playing, but transfers too. They have 40 new players on the roster, and they're still trying to figure things out themselves. Miami has 19 true freshmen or transfers in its two-deep; A&M has 6, and only two start -- Chase Bisontis and Josh DeBerry. Miami starts 8.

Could be a big start for Ainias and Jake

If Miami decides to bring pressure and uses their best corners on Noah Thomas and Evan Stewart, that could open a lot of things up over the middle. That could get some early passes in to Ainias Smith, Moose Muhammad and Jake Johnson, especially if Miami tries to press across the field. If those guys can get open in the first couple of steps, they could have a big advantage.

Grimes could make Aggie debut tomorrow

Senior transfer Tony Grimes was a surprising DNP against New Mexico last weekend as the Aggies went with several other options. But Miami will go with quite a few 4-wide sets, and that could mean he gets into the game. He's got experience against Miami and his size could be a benefit against some of Miami's bigger receivers.

Hudson coming to visit

An A&M win tomorrow would obviously help in recruiting, and one player who could take notice if the receivers go off again is 5-star Micah Hudson. Landyn talked to him last night and he said he'll be at A&M next weekend for the ULM game. With Tech having already lost to Wyoming and Oregon on the schedule tomorrow, it's a good bet they'll be 0-2 after Saturday. That would definitely not hurt A&M's cause.

Two defensive ends making moves

A&M will be watching closely tonight as Melissa DE Nigel Smith is supposed to make his commitment at halftime of his game. I fully expect Oklahoma to win out here. But the Aggies have quietly been working on another target: Tampa's Solomon Williams, who is currently a 3-star but has his list narrowed to Oregon, Clemson, Alabama and A&M - not very 3-star-ish. He will take his official visit to A&M Oct. 7, for the Alabama game.

Two other RSVPs for Alabama have a corner feel

Waco Connally's Kobe Black, who Texas really hoped would have shut things down by now, will make his official to A&M the weekend of the Alabama game as well. So will Statesboro, Ga. 4-star Kamron Mickell, who visited unofficially in the spring. Along with Terry Bussey, these guys are probably the two biggest corner targets on the market for A&M right now.
