The team practiced in shoulder pads outside today, and making his first appearance of training camp was Priest Willis.
They went through the usual agility and stretch period and then broke out into individual drills. During this period there wasn't anything new to report, but one thing that stood out was AJ Hilliard taking the time to coach up Riley Garner after Garner went through a drill. Hilliard was standing by watching the drill and pulled Garner aside to show him proper mechanics.
Following individual was a period (last one we were able to see) that focused purely on the return game. This was a new drill, a toughness drill, that encouraged the players to be physical, and physical they were. Emotions were high and players were intense and aggressive. There was one player positioned on punt coverage going up against two blockers. As soon as the ball was punted it was almost as if there were no rules, blockers do whatever it takes in order to stop the one player positioned on punt coverage from getting down the field. Pushing and knocking to the ground was encouraged, and the intensity of the players lead to a few scuffles. One worth noting occurred when Justin Dunning went up against Donovan Wilson. The two went at it and Wilson made sure Dunning got a taste of SEC aggressive football. Dunning returned the message right back, and during the next rep he managed to rip off Wilson's helmet. It didn't stop there with Dunning who got into it with Sam Moeller during there rep. This got the entire team on the sidelines intense. Davonta Burns and Brandon Williams are another pair that got physical as they went up against Riley Garner who managed to get down field. Throughout the drill coaches and players were yelling and tempers we're at an all-time high for this training camp. At the end of the period the aggression was left on the field and everyone went on as normal. Although unfortunately that is when we were kicked out.
The team will be in full pads tomorrow.
