This is an episode I've been looking forward to releasing for a while. If you are from Texas and you are alive, you better have a little bit of a soft spot for ZZ Top in your heart. Not only are they Texas royalty, they are also one of the most influential American bands ever.
Most of us know the cheesedick MTV version of ZZ Top with the goofy beards and the nookstress girls prancing around a car. However, it's the early material that's soooooo good, specifically the blues guitar virtuosity of Rev Billy F Gibbons.
We take a deep dive on ZZ Top's First Album, discuss the formation of the band, and then dissect 12-bar blues in the lab. Most of you probably have never listened to First Album because there aren't any of their known hits on it.
Give it a try and see if you don't dig it.
