So Lina Hidalgo...

I thought there was a conversation going on informing people what was going on between HISD and a county judge. Suddenly someone is coming on here telling us what a great mind reader he is. I appreciate the info coming in because the Covid crap is different in different locations. That is one way to get pretty good info without weeding through media reports that may or may not be forthcoming with correct facts. Keep info coming. Forget the personal attacks.

Who would have guessed the zero experience county judge telling the most inept school district in the state what to do would be chaos?

HISD teachers are overly stressed about buying their own PPE, hand sanitizer, etc. Our local private schools for PreK are also a joke with no plan outlined on how things would change at all when we all know those little germ monsters are the primary driver of virus in normal times. Just overall a complete mess.

interesting how EU countries opening schools back up have not had the outbreak attributed to kids per many studies. guess US kids are different. hope this year is another cluster fvck with many more parents opting to home schooling or micro classes not taught by teachers to get to education reform

Humble resumes activities but hasn’t announced when they will start in person school. They announce tomorrow. I am not sure which way they will go, but I know the superintendent is not a fan of the county trying to give orders. They had a complete plan ready to go for starting school and Hidalgo power tripped and threw everything in to disarray again.

Ridiculous watching all the “believe the science” people ignoring all the “science” showing kids need to be in school.

Why don't you keep this racist shit at your klan meeting or alt right circle jerk?

Winner

There is an education problem in this country that could use some minor tweaks, mostly in the area of the core classes. However, the much bigger problem is in the home. Single parent families, broken families, children being raised in day care. The school system is not equipped to provide discipline AND education. Parents need to do a better job of preparing their children for school in the form of listening and respecting authority.

Education reform is treating a symptom, but dismissing the core problem.

The constant use if the word science is the way democrats and the media try to make their supporters feel smarter and superior. The usage actually exposes their ignorance.

Agree but if the schools returned to the use of strict discipline, they could fix a lot of the problems in education and help the kids develop personal responsibility. Liberals are ideologically opposed to these principles as demonstrated by their policies.

I see your point, and that was certainly prevalent in past decades, but I still think it's the responsibility of the parents and households to maintain discipline. Schools should be very cookie cutter throughout the country. Provide education to students. If the student is disruptive then they are removed from the class and sent home. That simple. Gone are the days where parents just drop off kids and pick them up at 3. If your child is disruptive then he/she is gone immediately.

Is she Hispanic...well so is Dora. I was more mocking her youth, but congrats on making it a racial issue

If this was a white, male, republican, y'all would be praising their leadership and determination. Disagree with her politics all you want, but y'all are hypocritical af.
No. She has proven many times that she is horrible inexperienced, ruthlessly incapable, offensively tyrannical and in general an embarrassment to thinking folks of all ilks. Has nothing to do with anything but that and the science that says, put’em back in school.

Not really. I'm a moderate. I don't vote straight ticket.

And, honestly, I think I may have voted for her.

But she sucks ass at this job.

That's all I was posting.

We were set to publish a timeline to renew our activities and then all of the sudden started getting these "don't go public" emails and 5 days later I find out the delay was Hidalgo threatening every district...meaning she called each super individually with her team.

Now granted I have lived in Georgia for a little over a decade so I can’t really talk about what is happening in Texas, and I’m just to lazy to look it up, but I would imagine it is similar to Georgia. Parents are given a choice in that they can send there kids back to school or they can continue virtual learning at home. It’s at 70% of parents sent their kids back to school with 30% opting for virtual learning. The ones staying home helps the ones staying in the classroom to help with social distancing when possible. Everyone wears a mask. Parents have every right to choose what to do in regards to their children’s education. They are given the information at hand and they make an informed decision.

Why would anyone want to use science to make decisions? Science is so overrated when compared to making crap up.

It isn't the US kids that are different. It's the US adults that are different. Europe took covid seriously from the start and we did not. Heck, we didn't take it seriously for three months. And we continue to not take it seriously. How else can you explain the U.S, with all its advantages in medicine, money, and brain power being so far behind?
