We’re standing in line…at the bank…
-Dice
As far as I’m concerned, that is the single greatest opening line to a stand-up special in the history of comedy.
Let’s talk a little stand-up comedy. Leaving the Chapelle’s of the world out of the equation…who’s the best dude going right now and what’s the best comedy show you ever saw, in person?
I went to Joe Rogan’s new Austin joint before he opened the Mothership. Can’t recall the name but the name of the show was just “Joe Rogan and friends”. No other descriptors aside from that. We ate a gram of mushrooms and drank a few and rolled into this tiny, little double-decker bar. (If someone says the name I’ll probably remember it)
The lineup consisted of Mark Normand, Ari Schaefer(sp?), Tony Hinchcliffe, a never before heard of Shane Gillis, and a couple other cats who you’ve probably heard of. It was a who’s who of the current comedy scene and none were expected aside from Joe.
We watch the whole set, I lost my mind and laughed way too hard at Shane Gillis’ Down’s syndrome bit. Then about 10 minutes into Joe’s’ set my buddy, who got us the tickets, just sacked out on his stool and did an incredibly successful face plant on the concrete floor. The giant bouncer came over to grab his lifeless, 125lb frame, and he slid through his arms like a ready-to-eat spaghetti noodle. Once again, slapping his head on the concrete floor. This was a show stopper in this tiny bar. The comics were about 20’ away. Joe commenced to calling us bubble-gummers and insisted we were ALL thrown out with our completely unconscious friend. He had to do this, as several of us attempted to quietly sit back down. Nah…we all got tossed to raucous laughter and verbal abuse. Missed the q and a at the end….it was awesome!! Greatest comedy show I have ever or will ever see.
What’s you got, AY? Who’s your go-to for a chuckle? What’s the greatest show you’ve ever seen? There better be a FVCKIN story attached to it. Go!!
