Serious question for board Democrats...

“curious.”

you keep using that word.

i do not think it means what you think it means.

It does not create a one party system, but it does give power to Democrats in the short term.

I have always thought it odd that DC has very little representation. There is almost a million people who live in the United States, are citizens, pay taxes and have no representation in congress and watered down votes for president. We fought for our independence in part because of this. Puerto Rico is a different animal. They don't pay Federal income tax. Granting them statehood is only a political move.
DC was created with annexed land given by surrounding states (Maryland and Virginia I believe). It was never intended to be a state. If they think they have too much land or the people living outside the 10 mile radius of the center of government want representation then that land should go back to those states that annexed it.

I blocked aggie98 because I got tired of reading his dribble but I’m not surprised if he doesn’t understand why it was decided that the federal government shouldn’t be in a state.

I understand the history and what’s required. I have no clue what that has to do what the issue as to whether a place within America, with American citizens, who pay federal taxes, with a population greater than two states have virtually no representation.

What’s the logical support for that?

You think the DC is still made up of the federal government employees. Man you’ve lost you mind. Did Twitter tell you that. All 750,000 are government employees.

And you guys worship this guy. He has completely lost his mind.

Blocked reason is funny. Guy lost his mind and I couldn’t stop from making that clear. He’s scary crazy.

i think you mean drivel.

If you're a wordsmith why don't put some together to form a thought instead of attempting to insult those with whom you disagree? I'm curious...

Pretty complex...I'll work on it...

good: just remember, genuine curiosity requires openness to other views or new information.

it can’t just be an empty phrase to elicit a response you already know you will ignore so you can get off your next zinger.

do that too many times and people will regard it as intellectually dishonest or, at best, a feeble attempt at socratic method.

That's a good start...but you're wrong. I started this thread because I'm curious. I was also curious of what bio's conservative positions are since, his words, he was at his core a conservative.

Do I have an opinion? Clearly. I was inviting someone to explain why I shouldn't believe my lying eyes. If that's not curiosity then please help me here.

Frankly, you seem invested in perpetuating the impression you are the smartest guy in the room versus actually engaging in conversation.

i’m fiscally conservative, and the last two republican presidents have been horrible at it.

straight up terrible.

it’s why people like george will and bill kristol jumped ship.

they distract everyone with social conservatism.

which i’m not supportive of at all.

the party has devolved into a cult of radicalized evangelicals, many of whom have obviously not done much bible reading.

maybe they skipped all of the red text thinking those are lucifer’s lines.

I gave the solution, the land is absorbed back into the states that donated it. Thus those living there would now have representation under teh Senators elected to those states and maybe a creation of 1-2 rep seats. It's an easy and historically supported solution but it doesn't support the power grab.

And the reason it was created is in the history. Was too much land given probably but the fix is easy if you choose to follow the history. Now on Puerto Rico, they will probably get statehood at some point like Alaska and Hawaii. I would have a issue with a territory so massivly in debt getting statehood, but with the financials of the country in general that would be massively hypocritical.

We share the fiscal conservatism philosophy. I'm adamant about it. I'll go back more than two republican presidents...Reagan was no fiscal conservative either. Democratic presidents have been no better...classic guns vs. butter comparison. It's getting so much worse, we have no interest in fiscal issues...and by we I mean us.

George Will & Bill Kristol have no room to criticize, they never saw a war they didn't want to be part of. Wars are expensive, but hey those defense contractors...meanwhile folks are killed and maimed. Color me not a fan.

As a devout believer in Jesus I'll leave those comments alone. Just remember most of the issues people have with God are actually issues with people. We would do well to understand the difference.
