I found this on cbssports.com, a few of his teammates are actually talking good about him.
Josh McCown has the backing of the head coach, but he shouldn't expect Johnny Manziel to simply fade away into a backup role.
When the competition to land the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback job officially takes off over the summer, McCown will enter as the favorite and Manziel will be forced to launch a campaign that convinces the coaching staff that he's ready to be a starting quarterback in the league.
According to Browns cornerback Joe Haden, that's exactly what Manziel is planning. When Haden was asked if Manziel intends to be the Browns' starting quarterback this season, Haden said that's absolutely the case.
"Oh for sure," Haden said via Cleveland.com. "He's a competitor. I think it's all about competition. We have Josh McCown. We have Johnny. We have [Connor] Shaw. All those guys. Just all of them feel like they can win the starting job."
Because Haden is good friends with Manziel, he was also able to give insight into how Manziel has changed from last year to this year. Specifically, Haden sees a more involved teammate in terms of his study habits and his dedication to learning the offense. Haden also said Manziel knows he made mistakes last season.
"He said he took a lot of things for granted," Haden said. "Just being able to go back there and realize that he is in the NFL. He's living his dream. He's a quarterback in the National Football League and what that entitles him. I think he understands that and I'm very happy for him."
Of course, this isn't the first time we're hearing about Manziel's transformation. A little over a week ago, offensive coordinator John DeFilippo showered Manziel with praise, saying that Manziel "is putting himself in a position to be a quarterback in the NFL." And on Friday, Browns linebacker Paul Kruger complimented Manziel's work ethic.
For now, they're just words. But McCown should be keeping an eye on Manziel throughout training camp. There's a reason why Manziel was drafted in the first round, and there's a reason why the Browns are McCown's seventh team in 13 seasons.
