I wrote earlier that Jonathan Smith couldn't be our coach because he failed to elevate OSU's recruiting rankings compared to their previous coaches. Worse than that, he was dead last in Pac12 recruiting rankings from 2019 to 2021. That won't cut it, for sure. But...

His team is very well coached at every position group, and they have fantastic schemes on both offense & defense. I love their team identify. After watching the UW game, they are far more physical than I realized and that style would fit great in the SEC. Clearly, his recruiting evaluations are stellar, but that can only go so far. I don't know how he overpowers opponents with 2 star players, but he usually does it. Somehow, if the recruiting issue can be overcome, he could be a winner at A&M.

What do you guys think? Is there a way to fix recruiting, or is an apparent lack of salesmanship a 100% deal breaker for Smith?
