I have questions. About Life, the Universe and Everything, but particularly about our team next year, and no, they can't wait...
1. Who is going to "replace" 45? Yeah, I know, you just don't replace an All American, unless your Bama or Georgia, but I'm still going to ask the question. Do we have him on the roster? Harris? Sanford? Davis? I like Harris as a blitzer. I think I saw the same from Sanford. Davis? Don't really know. What I do know is WLB is still going to be a key position on our defense and we need someone to step up.
2. Who is our other corner? Assuming the KSU transfer takes one spot, who plays opposite? Is Thomas or Rogers ready? Is McCall really a corner? Is Grimes coming back and can he stay healthy? I really like what we've done so far on the back end, but whatever version our defense ends up being, we have to be able to cover and that starts with top flight corners. I think we still need to find at least 1 or 2 in the portal. That said, our returnees need to be coached up like they should have been already.
3. Who is our nickel? I simply don't want Bryce Anderson here. I think he's much more valuable at free safety where his instincts really show out. So, who to put here? I really don't know. Some subscribe to the theory of having a bigger DB to support the run and jam receivers, especially in zone coverage. Not sure that works against really good slots most of the time. I think Antonio Johnson was an exception to the rule for us. Do we have another AJ? Likely not. But it will interesting to see who we rotate in.
4. With Raikes gone, who plays the nose? This is the transfer no one is talking about, but should be. Jackson and Raikes were our noseguards last year. Next? Samu. Think he's ready for 70 snaps?! We're going to play an even front. It still requires a DT who can essentially "occupy" the middle of the offensive line in order for the rest of the line to disrupt the line of scrimmage and the backers to scrape and make plays. Don't see that guy on the roster.
