Is it really BAS if it's true?

Going to start by saying there is still a lot that can happen for football, basketball, and baseball but is there another school that has been kicked in the nuts repeatedly the way we have?

It's one thing to be a perennial doormat, but what makes it so much worse is the untapped potential and the sparks of hope that flare up only to be immediately stomped out. Every time we've experienced a moment of greatness it has been short-lived and followed up with a spectacular flop or an agonizing spiral into mediocrity. BAS - It's not a syndrome, we're simply fvcking battered.

Baseball:
A lead in the championship series. One game, 9 innings from a title. We lose 2 in a row and our coach is hired by our rival, unheard of. There's still hope here but just an incredible kick in the nuts.

Basketball:
We had the coach of our dreams in BCG. A better fit could not have existed. After an incredible Sweet 16 run (which really shouldn't have ended when it did) he takes the UK job and we enter the doldrums of Turgeon and the 2nd round, not the worst thing but a bitter letdown after the momentum BCG generated.

Awful hire in Kennedy but somehow we get some pretty spectacular talent. Again it's magic followed by misery.
The greatest comeback in all of basketball history at any level vs Northern Iowa only to get drummed by OU in the next game.
A shocking blowout of #2 seed UNC followed up by getting run out of the gym by Michigan and the icing on the cake of Tyler Davis inexplicably foregoing his Senior season to play in Europe or some shit, don't even know what happened to that guy.

We hired another dream coach in Buzz. He was perfect. He killed it everywhere he went, it was foolproof. He came in and flopped. But he brought it back. Foreshadowing of every fvcking season we have had with him.
After an incredible late season surge and an NCAA snub we made a run to the SEC tourney championship game. And got crushed by Tennessee. We made a run to the NIT championship! And we lost by 1. We couldn't even win the fvcking NIT.
We started rough but had another great run, an incredible win against Bama and another run to the SEC tourney title. And we lost to Bama. And then we got BOMBED by a mid ass Penn State team.
But we had hope. We had pre-season SEC MVP Wade Taylor to lean on. It was up and down with a really bad losing streak but we pulled it back and made another run to SEC semis. And lost again. We had an incredible comeback against UH but couldn't close it out. But we have hope. And we opened the season with a fvcking embarrassing loss to UCF. It never ends.

Football:
We stole the coach from Alabama! Eventually Fran got his shit rolling and rode Reggie McNeal to the Cotton Bowl despite some painful losses to OU and Nebraska. And we got obliterated by Tennessee. And then we inexplicably became an option team and wasted Reggie and the greatest passing QB in Texas HS football up to that point. We managed a couple of wins against the horns but it was the cherry on top of a shit sandwich.

Sherman was not a good hire. He embarrassed us by losing to Arkansas State at home. But somehow he pulled it back together and built something. We had a pretty incredible run and made it to the Cotton Bowl. And got trucked by LSU. But there was hope. Mike Sherman had somehow managed to put together a team that had the talent to play in the National Championship game. But he took that talent and went 6-6 while blowing DOUBLE DIGIT halftime leads in 5/6 losses. UNHEARD OF!

And then came Sumlin and the magic of JFF. Some twist of fate kept us away from the title - a fake hurricane that forced us to open with Florida and a little yellow flag on a phantom clipping call kept us out of the SEC Championship and the sure National Championship that would have followed. But we had a Heisman winner! It was great for a minute. Then the autograph bullshit and no defense led to the greatest QB in CFB history closing out his career having to come from behind to win a bowl game against Duke. And then came the slow Sumlin spiral. The signing of a legacy, the loss of an entire QB room. The UCLA debacle was a microcosm of his tenure. We were killing them and then we got killed and left angry and confused as to what the fvck just happened, it didn't seem possible.

So we hired Jimbo. A fvckin-A bonafide championship coach. Jimbo got to crootin and got to winning. A playoff snub hurt but it was soothed by the sweet taste of Orange victory and a top 5 finish. Victory was assured at some point in the near future. And then Jimbo spiraled. We signed the greatest class is recruiting history and half the guys weren't even on the roster the next year. And we are currently on the hook for the most embarrassing buyout in sports history next to Bobby Bonilla.

So we got Elko. He wasn't Jimbo but he was here when things were good, he was good, maybe things could be different. We finally won the big game when everyone was watching! We didn't just win, we pushed in LSU's shit in dramatic fashion. THINGS ARE DIFFERENT NOW, we proudly proclaimed! We finally didn't crumple under the spotlight. For a week. And then we got our shit pushed in dramatic fashion by SC. But there's just enough hope leading up to a dramatic game with the horns that very well could be for a spot in the SEC Championship and a spot in the playoffs. Things are different now, right? RIGHT? I fvcking hope so.

This shit is like a fvcking running gag. It's Lucy and Charlie Brown. We're in a fvcking sitcom. There is not another school that comes remotely close to this level of misery and disappointment.

The real bitch of BAS is how fvcking sneaky it is. How it can be undeniably expected but then still catch us completely by surprise. The higher we go the harder the crash back down. Baseball title game - coach stolen by rival. We actually won the Orange Bowl with Jimbo which made the crash even more puzzling and painful. Losing to LSU was perfectly expected so instead we kick their fvcking ass and get drilled in the ass a week later instead. It's so much worse when you think we're past it only for it to drag us back down.

Fvcking BAS, man. That shit is real to us.
