Well y'all, boy did I hit you with a loaded question on an early Saturday morn.... The answers don't just lie in one question. Some many other factors affect it like opponents' schedules, in conference, out of conference and so much more. But I'm just going to try to stick to our schedule (control the controllable) or I'd be writing all day long. So, off we go...
Of course, I prefer one of those wins against tu because tu sux!!! 10-2, with these wins, gets us in.
Whatcha y'all think Gig'em?!
- Notre Dame (H) - Historical program, history with our coach, history with their QB, first game of the year, nationally televised, against Top 5ish?, team with 110,000 screamin' Aggies in Kyle. A a true measuring stick game right out the gate. Couldn't ask for anything more. We win this game and it garners respect, if not a few whispers....
- McNeese (H) - These are the types of games where we as Aggies have trouble looking like Aggies, especially early. We certainly don't need it in getting ready for a trip to Florida. Speaking of which...
- Florida (A) - Napier, with brutal back end of schedule is looking for early wins, and he is looking straight at us. My big question is Mertz the same guy who played last year or in the the ones before at Wisky. I have to go off recent history and that makes this trip to the Swamp even tougher. I still don't believe in Napier all that much. I say nail biter, which I don't like much sayin'...
- Bowling Green (H) - I'd be surprised if we didn't take a minute to get rolling in this one and Coach Elko gets really annoyed. Not where we are in any danger but not playing up to our standards for a while. We see them in games every season.
- Arkansas (N) - Bobby raised us up 11 points called Jimbo's plays. Now, I don't believe he has the personnel at Arky, but he has the mind still and that spells danger. Couple things in our favor though. Better personnel on both sides. So, I think we can stop them enough or out score them if we have to. But not a gimme game!
- Missouri (H) - Okay, I can buy Mizzou key players like Cook and Burden coming back, but they have to be able to run that zone running game to succeed. That kid last year was special and so was the line. I haven't seen enough of them to know they are the same team and we are at home. Still not buying them enough to think they're just going to waltz in over a Coach Elko led team.
- Miss St. (A) - Never underestimate a team with new coach when you go on the road when they're looking for an upset. And man, those cowbells are annoying. We should be the better team everywhere, but that's why they play the games. We have to have focus and intensity. In games like this, we'll be playing as much against ourselves as against the opponent.
- LSU (H) - Hmmm... Daniels and that offense really covered up for a bad defense last year. I mean, really covered it up. So, blow up the staff and bring a lot guys in. We did the same thing ourselves. I think they'll be fine on offense. Nussmeier can play. I watched their bowl. I don't believe their play calling falls. Still, I just don't know about their defense. Perhaps we catch them in transition because we are at home and that is the difference.
- South Carolina (A) - Sorry, just never been a fan of Beamer. Jimbo gave him a game because of special teams, which irks me til this day! We are the better team and we should be improving through the season. Defense, special teams, the running game and a few big plays in the passing game should travel well.
- New Mexico State (H) - By this time of the year, this really should be a true tune up game for getting guys healthy, a few youngins' game experience and and a chance to to really polish up techniques all over the roster.
- Auburn (A) - Truly, this is a game I wish was a little earlier in the year. I simply don't like the idea of Freeze having the ability to have worked with some the talent he has amassed and then playing us late in the year at home. Playing them at home is tough enough. Throw in the huge distraction of the tu game and it's going to be tough, tough, tough. Hopefully, the Iron Bowl will be on their minds enough to distract them. I am curious if Freeze really sticks with Thorne as he's stated. I don't believe he's the one to get him there...
- tu (H) - Bigger game in the SEC?! Bigger game in college football regular season?! Nope & Nope!! It's been too dang long!!! Yeah, I know they started it, so I'm just gonna leave it there. So, I will start with the obligatory... tu sux!!! Now, that's out of the way, to the teams and the game itself.... Rivalry game, 110,000, what's above screamin'?! Aggies at Kyle, nationally televised, hasn't been played in 12 years with two programs who really, really don't like each other, one program who just went to the playoff (sorry Ags, had to write it...) and the other who had to pay their last sorry a$$ coach a wheelbarrow full of cash to get his sorry butt of town (sorry Ags, had to write that one , too...). If I am to look honestly at these two rosters on the 17th of February 2024, I can't honestly write we are on par with tu. That said, I don't believe we are all that far away and we have 11 games to get there!!!
- McNeese, Florida, Bowling Green, Arky, Miss. St., S. Carolina, New Mexico St., Auburn
- Notre Dame, Mizzou, LSU and tu
Of course, I prefer one of those wins against tu because tu sux!!! 10-2, with these wins, gets us in.
