I'm trying to book a trip to Hawaii next June, and prices are mostly double or triple what I normally pay. A couple of places are "only" up 75%, but others are as much as 400% higher.
A Marriott agent told me that bookings were coming in strongly, that people seemed willing to pay these prices (for Kaui, above).
So I turned to my old reliable, very inexpensive hotel that I love, the Hyatt in Valencia CA, where I last paid $150 per night for a room. It's a simple but clean hotel near fantastic yet inexpensive food, and near Six Flags. (Actually, I love the price, not the hotel.) But now the room rate is $800 per night for June 2023.
Is anyone else having this problem? Do you guys intend to pay 300% or whatever more for a family vacation?
I'm going to try vrbo or similar for a direct condo owner in Big Island. It's much cheaper than the current alternatives, but I've never done it and I'm worried about the quality. Do you guys have any suggestions for that?
Embassy Suites Waikiki is up about 75%, so I'll bite the bullet on that one.
Fairmont Orchid (Big Island): $330 my last price, now $995.
Westin Ocean Villas (Kaui): $440 my last price, now $1,200.
