Has this been discussed "Austin Related"

You know, just the other day, everyone was in agreement that it was probably not a bad idea to make some things other departments responsibility. Now they just did exactly that, and all y’all are acting like the world is going to end. Get your shit straight.
can't wait till unarmed social workers start responding to family domestic violence calls and get the crap beat out of them or worse. will be interesting to see the publics' take on that

What a terrible thing to root for.

I am just as mad at Abbott using state troopers to fill the gap left in Austin. State money going to one city's bad decisions. IF they want to let crime over-run their city hell let them do it, not the rest of the state's responsibility to fix their stupid.

Of course if this was Houston and not Austin would Abbott do this? Since he lives in Austin.

He sent troopers from all over the region to San Antonio for over a week in late May and the first part of June to help the SAPD secure downtown and the Alamo during the peak of the protests. Solid group who stepped up and got right in the middle of things.

They did a hell of a lot more than just move some funds. They also deactivated a bunch of units that target certain kinds of things like gangs, traffic, SWAT, etc. . They are saying they are going to close the central police station on I-35. They shut down recruiting of officers and will not allow the police academy to begin any new classes for 2 years. The current class is half way through and no one seems to know if they are going to be allowed to finish.
I have been told Austin officers have already started applying in other cities including here.
DPS is starting to re-assign officers in class they need to move a bunch to Austin.

Dear Community,
We have served with the best of our ability for many years. We have missed anniversaries, birthdays, funerals, sports, and many other things so we could be there for you. When you called, we came. When you were being victimized, we stepped in and stopped it. When you were on your last breath, we gave you another and another. As many as it took to keep you alive. We held your child and loved on them when they were scared. We comforted you when your loved ones passed. We put our lives in harms way when the wolf came for you. When you ran from gunfire, we ran towards it. When you sat trapped in your car, we held your hand until the rescue crew could cut you out. We bought you lunch when others walked by and did nothing. We brought justice to your family when someone was taken from you. We gave you a voice when you had none. We stepped in when you couldn’t protect yourself. We saved your son’s, daughter’s, husband’s, aunt’s, brother’s, and sister’s.
The day came when we needed your help, but you never showed. When we asked you to stand up and give us a voice, you remained silent. When we were at our lowest, you offered no help. When we were being attacked, you watched from afar. When the time came for you to fight for us, you stayed home and kept silent. (To those who didn’t, thank you.)
The Austin Police Department has been almost completely defunded. There is barely enough to pay for our salary, medical care, and retirement. Now, when the wolf puts a bomb at your doorstep, we won’t be there. When a drunk driver kills your family member, we won’t be there. When your family member is drowning at the lake, we won’t be there. When someone crashes into your car, we won’t be there. When gangs take over your neighborhood, we won’t be there. When you’re assaulted on one of the many trails, we won’t be there. When you’re child is lost, we won’t be there to find them.
We won’t be there because your Austin City Council has shut down almost every unit needed to keep you safe and be there for you. They took everything from you while you sat in silence. They did it for their own personal gain and agenda. They won’t be there for you and made sure we couldn’t either.

Cutting the APD $154M is moronic insanity given the growth of Austin. Hopefully, they can re-imagine the loss of revenue from business flight while they re-imagine bums running amok in that shithole.

Is that shit straight enough?

To assist a fully funded SAPD I am fine with. The circumstances were extreme. This is replacing a PD because the city de funded it and having State Troopers doing APD jobs. Different situation and totally wrong.

Business flight is what I think of when I see this happening. I wonder if the city considers this when they decide to re-imagine.

I am having a hard time believing the left wing populace that is protesting and slowly taking over this city in Austin from the city council down is eventually going to notice the tu football is going to play football ...

They will see this as aN anti Covid deal and a pro trump deal .. And they will cause issues on campus and in the community..

Best decision I’ve made was moving out of that city. It’s a shame but anyone paying attention saw this coming over the last 3-5 years. I think most people in Austin proper are perfectly fine with all of this by the way

You are naive if you don't think these cuts to police departments will have a negative effect on their crime fighting, crime prevention, and emergency response capabilities.

Regardless of what is said, this defunding crap is punishment and the result of hatred for the police by a relative small group of loud activists who spew Marxist ideology. All you have to do is listen to a "citizens to be heard" session at a San Antonio City Council meeting to understand what kind of people these city councils are cowtowing to. It should be disturbing to anyone with common sense.
Be glad when these idiots call 911 and nobody answers.

Suits me. When crime goes out the roof and what cops they have left can't show up they will get what they deserve. Got 1 grandkid at tu but she will be leaving soon. Can't believe those people that think they are smart can be so stupid. Trouble is on the way,.

I think this discussion about Cities is indicative of the major fiscal and political issues driving our national politics. Factually, right now there’s probably a huge budget shortfall for most of our cities. They have to make some budget decisions! Now you factor into that the notions of centralized (Dem) vs localized (Rep) decision making/planning add a pinch of Presidential politics and you’ll get what we have. The ‘defund’ effort is just another way of splitting dollars you don’t have. Here (Granbury) we’ve postponed a planned for jail expansion. So now we’re struggling to find jail space and pay for transport. So, as long as we keep on strangling our economy over this COVID thing, it’s gonna get worse.

So, unless you’re absolutely devoid of grey matter, nothing is going to change until the economy is fully open again. Dems might raise taxes but there’s no blood in the turnip. Reps might enforce laws but people have to eat. I could go on covering different sides of many issues but there are bigger risks than increased number of COVID cases in locking down this economy! I think Austin sucks, but then my nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile away so, JOE, IF YOU THINK I’m going to wear a mask to feed my goats you can kiss my a**!

open it up! An idle mind is the devil’s workshop.

sorry - but these cities set their budgets and they blow money on unions and other shit that is unnecessary therefore they are where they are due to ridiculously stupid funding allocation. Federal govt better not bankroll these idiots -

also, city councilmembers and employees should not be able to get personal protection either - they created the mess they should live in it like the rest of the citizens they are screwing over. of course if citizens are stupid enough to live in legacy dem controlled towns, I have no sympothy for them. stop voting dem you dumbasses

There’s the problem in a nutshell, right? In theory the people suffering under this BS SHOULD at some point vote the idiots out. But they don’t! THEN some get frustrated and move to a better situation. THEN (of all the stupid shit) they want to elect the very type of people in their new home that screwed up their old home!

You would think that at some point they’d figure it out!

wait until they get a 10 to 20 car pile up on i35 and their is no one to unscramble it for about 4 hours. if anybody deserves it and all that goes with it they are the champs. could help recruiting when grandmother does not want her baby going to that hell hole.

Didn't think of it from a recruiting perspective!
A Wall Street Journal study says Austin leads the nation in homicide increases.

Actually, dad, Gov. Abbott was on Hannity radio show yesterday and he made the point that during the election where it was so close between Cruz-Beto that a very focused exit poll was taken. Of the voters who moved here from California 58% voted for Cruz. Still leaves 42% dumbass I guess.

42% is still more dumbasses than we originally had. Do you have any stats on local races? Dumbasses tend to congregate with other dumbasses.

No I don't have further information past what Abbott said yesterday. I was actually encouraged by the 58% number. Maybe we can keep working and get that number up.
Hopefully most of the people leaving California for Texas are more conservative types.
