More departures coming
The reason I keep bringing up the players who weren't drafted for the Maroon & White Game is because I expect four of the six to leave. Bryce Foster and Jabre Barber are staying, but other four --OL Dorian Hinton and Blake Ivy, LB Martrell Harris and DE Malick Sylla -- were not at practice yesterday. They could be hurt, but all four of them at once? Unlikely. If they all leave, that would put A&M at 84 scholarships, one under the limit.
A&M's targets becoming clear
The Aggies have three transfers making official visits this weekend: WR Keandre Lambert-Smith of Penn State, LB Solomon DeShields of Pitt and OL Koli Faaiu of Utah. They will have Charlotte LB Nikhai Hill-Green and Louisville DT Jermayne Lole in next week, if they don't commit somewhere first. I've also heard Houston WR Sam Brown visited yesterday, but I can't confirm that. I didn't see him, let's put it that way. But they kind of keep us away from most folks now.
A&M has offered a couple of offensive tackles, but not many. So far as I can tell, only two. Their main targets are linebacker, wideout and defensive tackle -- and center. A&M is low on numbers and young at linebacker; Daymion Sanford would probably start at WILL if the season began today, but there's a reason they have DeShields coming in this week and Hill-Green next week. They need numbers and experience. Right now, that group makes me nervous.
At defensive tackle, I think they'd like to take a couple of postgrads to have for a year. That would allow Shemar Turner to move back outside, and would make the whole group more potent. At center, someone (Adam Cushing, probably) clearly isn't happy with what they have and they're acting like they don't have a lot of faith in Foster. They're really pushing to get a center in there ASAP. Their patience may have run out.
At receiver, the deal's simple: they need numbers and they want experience and speed. They are all in on Lambert-Smith and, if he doesn't commit to Auburn before he arrives in College Station, I think that will be it.
Coach Henry gives in-depth injury report on Bryce Foster
It's always tough to get a detailed injury analysis out of a football coach. Track coach Pat Henry? He's a little bit different guy. The multi-championship winning coach, who currently has the Aggie men ranked #1 and the women #2, told us a lot about Bryce Foster and his recovery from tearing his ACL.
"Bryce has done a good job ,but he got hurt. You got to remember he got hurt and so being out on the track has helped Bryce because it's an individual (event); I mean, he controls his movement," Henry said. "And that that knee that has been hurt for a long time and now is healthy. He was able to deal with it in a different situation than being on the grass and on a football field. And I think it was I think it was a positive thing for him. He has not thrown what I think he's able to throw not yet. But when you think of the injury, he's not going to, it's going to be he may he may reach a potential end of this season, he may get close to it. He's a pretty good competitor. But when you see him come across a ring three months ago, you know he wasn't coming across. He was shying away from his knee that has already been in there doing anything he's doing. So he's gained confidence in himself and his strength and I think that's going to help him in football as well."
Two 5-stars visiting this weekend
Galveston Ball S/LB Jonah Williams has long been considered a lean to Oklahoma and Texas has jumped into the mix, but he's visiting A&M for the second time in as many weekends tomorrow. A&M has clearly made up some ground here, and we'll have to see if that momentum can continue and push them ahead of OU.
Lewisville OL Michael Fasusi was supposed to visit Texas, but he told Landyn this morning he's coming to A&M instead. That's a huge deal for the Aggies, who have made a bit of a move for the best offensive lineman in the state of late. He's made multiple visits and will take an official later this summer.
The Aggies do have their first official visitor of the 2025 class in this weekend: Lancaster (Calif.) Quartz Hill CB Adonyss Currie
will be in for his official visit. Outside of Currie, though, things won't really get heated up on this front until the first week of June.
