McKinnley Jackson suddenly a hot topic of conversation

I'm not sure what caused the hubbub, but A&M DT McKinnley Jackson has been getting a lot of run from scouts and NFL analysts the past few days. One scout, linked with the Senior Bowl, called him a "potential first rounder".
That may be true, but I have no idea why this is a sudden revelation to people. His stats, when he played last year, were remarkable. A few people who scouted A&M last year said that Jackson and Walter Nolen were as strong a duo at the end of last season as there was in the SEC. Jackson racked up 37 tackles, 7 tackles for loss and 2 sacks last year in essentially seven games. So the word's out. I still don't get why it took so long.

Who will commit next?

A&M's clearly had an amazing run of late, but there are still a couple of players out there who could join the 2024 class fairly soon. A pair of 4-stars, ATH Terry Bussey of Timpson and WR Ernest Campbell of Refugio, could make their move at any time. And yes, even with the additions of Cam Coleman and Dre'lon Miller, I think Campbell will commit to A&M. Bussey has been a strong lean for a long time, so that's not news.
Another guy to watch is OT Blake Ivy of Clear Springs. He could also make a decision at any point and, like the other two, is a strong A&M lean.
If the Aggies were to get those three, that would give them 19 commits, and they can probably take between 9 and 11 more players.

So who else is out there?

First, let's look at some guys who are takes no matter what: DT David Stone, DE Colin Simmons and WRs Micah Hudson and Ryan Wingo. A&M doesn't lead for any of them, but they're in the ballgame. Simmons and Wingo are both supposed to visit at the end of the month for the pool party.

Nigel Smith, one of A&M's few remaining DE prospects, will be back for the pool party. That's good news, because the Aggies have been playing catchup with OU for a while. The longer this goes, the better it is for the Aggies as they can try to get some momentum there.

3-star safety Myles Davis has set his commitment up for late August, but things I've heard of late make me feel good about A&M's chances here. I think they would be the choice if he decided today, but USC and Texas are still out there messing around.

A month ago, 4-star OT Bennett Warren seemed to be a done deal to Michigan. But it looks like the game of musical chairs may have stopped with the Wolverines, who took three other tackles, and he may not have spot there. So now A&M's back in the game, because they're more than willing to take four tackles (Ivy, Ashton Funk and Weston Davis). OU is likely also in this one.

Louisiana 4-star DT Dominick McKinley was a guy that I had conceded to LSU before his official visit last month. But I've heard that Elijah Robinson worked his magic, as he tends to do, and now the Ags are not just in the mix, but could well lead for the 122nd-ranked player in the country.

We've talked a lot about how the Aggies are in great shape for 4-star LB and current LSU commit Deebo Atkins, but there's another LSU target that they're also in the mix with. 4-star LB Tylen Singleton is narrowing his list and, after an official to A&M in June, they're a player for him. I don't think they lead, but they're within shouting distance for sure. Singleton could also be a safety, so he could have a unique role. If A&M were to get Atkins and Singleton to go with Tristan Jernigan, Jordan Lockhart and Tyanthony Smith, that would easily be the best linebacker haul they've had in the 21st century.
