Says Rueben Owens needs to get his timing back, that it does take a while to do that if you’re out for four or five months. Says it doesn’t matter that Moss and Daniels are out, he would have gotten his reps anyway.

Says the secondary needs “to clean up” the scheme, make sure they know and are doing what they want them to.

“There’s not a person in the building who was excited with how we played on defense down the stretch.”

At DT, there’s “healthy competition”. Says spring is critical to get better at football, and that there are more padded practices in the spring than the fall, and this is the time when the most improvement can happen.

“This is really the time where fundamentally, physically, the mentality, the technique, like all of that stuff, gets developed now.”

They’re starting to develop defensive packages around what they have, and they’re evaluating where guys like M’Pemba or Searcy fit in.

“You got to give them the chance to play it out and see what it looks like, and then just kind of formulate the package around what the strengths and weaknesses really totally are.”

Says they’ve got to throw the football at a better level if they’re going to improve.

Says he will have “a bigger role” in the defense. Says he has plenty of confidence in Bateman (and Hemphill) but “an identification of a problem that needs to be solved and believe I can help solve it.”

Says Armstrong and Niblack may get used in a big receiver role, but also mentions Ashton Bethel-Roman and Jonah Wilson as players who could contribute on this situations.
