Saturday will be senior day, and there will be 30 people honored.
That doesn’t mean all of those guys will be gone.
Says “a lot of things are on the table” with the running game. Says Amari and EJ are two, but “other people could be used”.
“We’ve got to replace a lot of production, and you can’t do it the same way.”
Says he’s really pleased with White and Bond and how they’ve performed.
Says that Tyler White’s hang time and how tough it is to return his punts has been impressive. White could kick it farther, but he puts it where they want it and how far to minimize returns.
“Everybody knows we’ve got to score points and we’re going to do it.”
Says it was business as usual during the bye week, but the level of intensity has gone up because they still control their own destiny. “Maybe business as usual, but with more of a sense of urgency because we have no margin.”
Says that the QB run could become more important, whether it’s Reed or Weigman. They’re looking for ways to effectively move the ball.
“It’s about the utilization of personnel. Take our weapons and figure out ways to score points … now we’ve gotta find another way to do it.”
“This is the first time in a long time where the contact point let me down in a game (South Carolina missed tackles) … you find ways to re-emphasize target in drills.”
Says he watched a lot of NMSU, a little Auburn and a little Texas on Saturday. “You don’t have time for thoughts on those other things (games).”
Jaylen Henderson remains out. They hope to get him back “soon.”
Likes NMSU’s running backs. Says they’re trying to find their way at QB, but have a couple of good receivers. Defensively, they are multiple, with 3-man and 4-man fronts and will switch coverages behind them.
“If we win, we’re in. If we don’t, we won’t. That’s the beauty of the SEC.”
Says Bond has always had the leg strength, but he’s gotten more consistent with his mechanics. Said the snap to kick timing last year was off, and with a few tweaks, it’s gotten to a high level.
