Yes we won and I am thankful for that but our inability to stop the run is extremely concerning. As Mark pointed out the silver lining was that the longest run was only 19 yards and tackling in the secondary was excellent but the only way we win this game is because Allen is turning into a great quarterback and our receivers completely out classed their secondary.
I was not so concerned about our inability to run the ball as I believe our game plan was to throw more because we new we had mismatches all over arkie's secondary but what is concerning is that against LSU,BAMA and Ole Miss that will not be the case. Those teams have much better athletes across their entire defense and if was are going get gashed against the run we are going to be in big trouble. We are not going to win those games if we are limited to 48 offensive plays.
Holding no calls not withstanding, I thought our two defensive ends ran themselves out of a number of plays. Hall crashing down and Myles rushing wide gave arkie some huge running lanes and made it easy for them to bounce plays outside. Linebacker play was spotty and as Mark said we have some injury issues that have forced younger player to play more than planned. I thought tackling in the interior line by dline and backers filling in was marginal at best.
I killed 1/2 a 1.75 liter bottle of Gentlemen Jack watching this one and it was a great finish but we have got to figure out a way to stop the run.
