The most impressive stats of the game are the stats that didn't matter. These stats include.
  • Six sacks, maybe seven, we lost anyway.

  • Alabama with an absurd 14 penalties for 99 yards. We lost anyway.

  • A&M wins turnover battle, 2 to 1. We lost anyway.

  • Alabama with 26 rushes averaging 0.9 yards per rush against a QB who supposedly can't throw. We lost anyway.

  • Alabama punt return yards, -1, A&M 46
So if I told you before the game that we would get six sacks, Alabama would have 14 penalties, that we would win the turnover battle, we would hold Alabama to less than a yard per carry rushing the ball, and Smith would have a 46 yard punt return, I'm betting you would have bet your soul we would win. We did not.

So let's move to stats that did matter.
  • Alabama QB 321 passing yards. A&M QB, 239.
And yep, we can mostly stop right there. The Bama QB, notwithstanding the sacks, had a (by far) a career day against A&M.

Overall, our DL dominated the first half. Their DL dominated the second half and by more, a lot more. We failed to consistently pressure their QB in the second half, while Max was pressured on each and every throw in the second half. In two sentences, that is why we lost this game.

It continues a pattern where as the game goes on our OL gets worse and worse at protecting the QB. In this game their OL got better, a whole lot better, at doing that. That's why we lost.
