HOUSTON -
An officer with the Houston Police Department was shot during a traffic stop Tuesday.
Investigators said the officer was shot in the back. The officer has been identified as Terry Smith, who is a motorcycle officer.
HPD chief Charles McLelland said Smith underwent successful surgery and is in stable condition. McLelland said Smith is expected to make a full recovery.
Police said the shooting happened in the 4200 block of Main Street near Midtown. Investigators said they do not have a suspect and that it could have been from a shooter in a passing vehicle.
KPRC 2 is told the officer heard a loud noise during the traffic stop and realized he had been shot.
