Right now I see 4 groups of people that should share the honor.

1. Healthcare workers for obvious reasons
2 Grocery Workers for keeping us in food
3. Truckers for getting what is needed where it is needed
4. Educators having to adapt on the fly for the last 5 months

Sorry, but teachers politicizing this situation remove them from contention in my book. They are as essential as anyone.

A small group of teachers are politicizing. About the same percentage as any other job that has a share of people who bitch about everything.

The economy needs education to resume to the workforce can resume. It's pretty damn important to getting things back on track.

Antifa as a group
Biden as a individual - it is nice to see the mentally challenged strive to achieve more than possible

Hey but we can do this. Politics is OK...just no name calling and personal insults.

Mark, do agree?

Everyone listed so far is just doing a job, same as me and presumably you. Save for the police nomination- good one.

How many active duty military folks have died in combat or training to date? That's my nomination.

Honestly, I nominate the brother of that guy the cop murdered in his apt. Hugged her and forgave her in stunning display of humanity, empathy and compassion

becoming one very quickly- probably the original sneaky intent I suspect

No this is in no way was intended to be political but I guess with a little effort you can make anything political.

As a former classroom teacher, I chose teachers because of the way they have had to change everything in mid stream. They are still doing it just weeks away from school maybe or maybe not starting, maybe or maybe not being online or in a classroom. Administrators because they are in a no win position.

Screw the minority of educators politicizing this.

Law enforcement is also a good candidate.

The others suggestion were not afforded the opportunity of self isolation. They had to keep "doing their job" no matter what. And, our survival was dependent upon them doing it.

Just my thoughts.

As a former teacher, I’m jealous they are just now getting off Spring Break.

with my wife being a teacher and a close cousin being a detective and still pulling street duty, I still vote police officers.

teachers (In general) aren’t fearing guns/knives/explosives being pulled on them day in and day out.

Mark, this is silly. What's so political or controversial about this that it has to be moved? Should we just talk about the Dan Moore tacked thread and whether or not he'll get it together?

Sorry... I didn’t mean to cast stones at any teachers we have on here. My mom was a teacher for 40 years, so I highly value the profession.

Dude....i have not stopped replying to emails, filling out spreadsheets and forms, and working since that date. It's the most annoying time in my entire career. They'll have us do something, then some government official makes a change and we have to do it again differently. It's maddening.

That's one reason for all the retirements this year. Nobody wants to go through what is about to happen.

by the way, I'm also in no way saying that teachers are heroes or should be the people of the year etc.

The profession is different than what many think, though - particularly if you're basing it on your experience in school.

Teaching has definitely changed since I was in school in the 80’s & 90’s. Hell, it’s changed since my first year teaching in ‘02 to my last year in ‘16.
