First, a Blessed Good Morning to All My Brothers and Sisters in Christ on a day many of us will be congregating in the House of the Lord!
Today, I thought I would write several posts on some of the various position battles I foresee percolating across our roster. Some will be very obvious to y'all, some perhaps not so much. With that said, let's start with one very obvious one...WILL LB.
Gig'em!!!
Today, I thought I would write several posts on some of the various position battles I foresee percolating across our roster. Some will be very obvious to y'all, some perhaps not so much. With that said, let's start with one very obvious one...WILL LB.
- The Contenders - As I said in my other post, it is a mix of experience versus youth. Clean slate for everyone so no advantage on scheme. What I will say, though, is that whoever plays must understand zone concepts over man to man. Even as we have man coverages, we will be predominantly zone the WILL backer is going to key in those concepts.
- Alex Howard - Sideline to sideline backer, my only question is the competition, but he did play in some bigger games, just not enough of them. Inside track, going in.
- Damyion Sanford - Smaller sample size, but looked good in it. Just needs more reps to confirm what our eyes think we saw. That's what practice and the weight are for. I wouldn't be surprised if he's challenging for the job.
- Martrell Harris Jr. - Utilized mostly as an Edge by the last staff, so we really don't know what his skills are as a OLB. Certainly looks the part. He flashes from time to time. With Coach Elko's previous magic with linebackers with us as DC, maybe Harris is the next one in line. Who knows?!
- Scooby Williams - I put him on here because Coach Elko says he's LB and he's a LB until he says he isn't (I still think he's an Edge, but what do I know...?!). Size, speed and power are there absolutely, but are the instincts? That is my question and I think it was the question at Florida. Well, here is the chance to coach him up!
Gig'em!!!
