This is going to be very different. The media is kept well away and can’t walk between fields. So today I looked at the offense.

Mike Elko said you wouldn’t be able to guess his two deep, and he’s right. Everything was jumbled up. They did do the play against air drills they did under Jimbo, but they had two offensive groups going at the same time.

All three quarterbacks were out there today, and Conner Weigman seemed to be throwing the ball fine. Jaylen Henderson was throwing with more zip (and, it seemed, confidence), while Marcel Reed continues to grab my attention with his arm strength.

There was a lot more instruction at this practice than I can recall in a long time. WR coach Holmon Wiggins had his guys working on several different things, but was also explaining why guys should do what he was teaching. Adam Cushing was working on basic stuff with the linemen too.

Moose Muhammad was wearing sleeves. I laughed.
Le’Veon Moss and Rueben Owens both caught my attention because they looked noticeably bigger in a good way. They were running full bore in drills, and they seemed to be a little faster too.

One of the new guys who caught my attention was tight end Tre Watson. He’s a big dude, but he runs really well and showed off good hands today. The other transfer tight end, Garrett Miller, is a hoss. I could see him getting a lot of the Max Wright type of reps, but he’s also capable of making plays in the passing game.

Jahdae Walker not only looks like he’s been in the gym, but also looks like he’s taller too. He’s about as tall as Noah Thomas.

Three things stood out to me overall: I didn’t see Elko at all during our time out there. Collin Klein had the offense. Period. I also didn’t hear a single profanity and very little yelling. The yelling I did hear was positive reinforcement. And there were far more parents at this practice than I’ve ever seen before. I don’t know why that is, but it was surprising.
