We've pretty much been preaching the mantra that we can win at least a couple more games if we just move up to 70th or so in total D. Navy finished 70th last year in total D and their stats were:
- 5.83 yards per play (we were 5.91)
- they gave up 40 offensive TDs (we gave up 42)
- They gave up 403.8 yards per game (we gave up 450.8)
Before looking up these stats I assumed that the most important stat would be our 3rd down defensive efficiency and was surprised to see that we finished 69th in that category.
I think The Chief will make a ton of difference just with scheme alone. Throw in an attitude change, greater depth, more talent, more time in S&C program, etc. and it doesn't seem like it would be that hard to move up quite a bit.
Am I way off here?
