Moorehead likely able to meet 10 receiver goal

Over the past couple of years, Jake Spavital has wanted to use up to 10 receivers in his rotation, something receivers coach Aaron Moorehead has echoed since his arrival. With Damion Ratley having an impressive last couple of weeks of training camp, it looks like the Aggies have a rotation of receivers with two more they can plug in when the situation calls for it. Spavital said the idea is to get the starting four as many snaps as possible, but the twos, led by Pope, will get their shots as well. Ratley has made a very clear push and will get playing time, with the final spot going to freshman tight end Jordan Davis, who can also be used as a slot receiver. If the scenario works out as expected, freshman Kemah Siverand will redshirt but two other scholarship wideouts, Frank Iheanacho and Jamal Jeffery, are on the outside looking in.

Aggies continue to build Arizona momentum

In case you didn't see it, West Coast analyst Blair Angulo went and saw CB Byron Murphy last night and the A&M target talked to him after the game. What he said is attention-getting in a positive sense for the Aggies.

"On the recruiting front, Murphy told me Christian Kirk (former teammate at Saguaro) and Priest Willis (former teammate at Marcos de Niza) being in College Station is a big deal to him. He's all set to visit campus in October and can't wait to continue building a relationship with the coaches," Blair wrote.

When we were in Baltimore in June, Rob and Mark both came away with the sense that Murphy and his friend, 5-star WR N'Keal Harry, were leaning A&M's direction. There's been nothing to make that opinion change since -- in fact, that opinion has grown stronger with time. A&M is now probably likely to land not only the top player in Arizona, but the top TWO players in Arizona, extending the streak to a pretty amazing four years in a row (thanks to Priest Willis' transfer).

A&M in good shape with a good number of R100 players

Continuing the thought process from the last bit, Harry is currently sitting at #20 in the Rivals 100. Murphy is #49. A&M is thought to be leaders by a significant margin for the nation's top safety, Brandon Jones (#31), and LB Michael Divinity (100). There are others that the Aggies are in the running for, but these are four names that would not surprise anyone if they joined A&M's commitment list at some point (likely, in all four cases, at or after an All-Star game).

Decision nears for McTelvin Agim; could he be heading A&M's way?

Hope (Ark.) Senior High DE McTelvin Agim visited College Station last weekend and talked to Matt about how the trip went. Judging from his comments, it went pretty well.

Agim said the trip "felt like an official," since he was in College Station the whole weekend and spent a lot of time with the coaching staff, primarily defensive ends coach Terry Price and defensive coordinator John Chavis. Agim said he feels Chavis has already made a positive impact on the Aggie defense, and has everyone running to the football. Kyle Field also impressed him; he called it "crazy ... it looks like an NFL stadium."

The coaches, including head coach Kevin Sumlin, told him that they believe he has the talent to come in and fight for playing time immediately in 2016. At 6'3", 270 lbs., Agim is already large for a defensive end in Chavis' scheme and could eventually move inside, but the coaches said their initial plans for him were to "set the edge" for the defense.

Agim said he is a big fan of "Aggie life," and was impressed by the support staff A&M has for its students both during and after college. He said he is on track to graduate early and will commit at a family reunion Sept. 5. He is, by the way, related to A&M running back Tra Carson.

A lot of people believe Agim is a slam dunk to Arkansas, but that really doesn't appear to be remotely close to the case. In fact, he made a comment to Matt that Mark feels may be a little telling: "It irritates me when people automatically think I'm going to Arkansas. I'm originally from Texas."

Agim says he has not made up his mind yet and is evaluating his options, but it looks like it's going to be a fight between A&M and Arkansas with Baylor being a dark horse. Ole Miss seems to have fallen back in the pack.
