Terry Bussey update

We'll start with what's clearly the big topic for the moment, the status of 5-star ATH Terry Bussey. He's out at the Polynesian Bowl and, from what I've been told by people who were there, he's been talking very, very favorably of A&M, the staff and Mike Elko in particular. He is going to take officials to LSU and Georgia, but his last one will be to A&M the weekend before national signing day. As it has seemed the whole time, Bussey looks like he remains A&M's to lose -- and Elko has no interest in doing that.

Now, where will Bussey play? He's been recruited the whole time as a corner, but he's playing wideout this weekend in the bowl game. Other programs have also recruited him as a receiver. A&M could use him on both sides of the ball, but if you look at the numbers, there's now more corners (experienced ones at that) than there are wideouts. So Bussey and the staff may need to discuss where they think he fits best.

Duke commit visiting
The Aggies don't have much going this weekend in terms of visitors -- their next big Junior Day is the 27th -- but they do have one official visitor coming from the 2024 class. Collierville, Tenn. offensive tackle Robert Bourdon, a Duke commit since last June, will be in town. Bourdon is a big fella at 6-6, 292, and has offers from FSU, UH, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Stanford, Virginia Tech and a lot more. I doubt he's making this trip as a social call, and OL coach Adam Collier is recruiting him, so we'll keep tabs on it.

Don't expect A&M to go after any new Alabama transfers
Even though new WR coach Holmon Wiggins was the lead recruiter for 5-star QB Julian Sayin, who went in the portal from Alabama this morning, don't expect the Aggies to get involved with this one. With Conner Weigman leading a four-deep quarterback room, adding Sayin at this point could lead to more disruption than positive results. Both Jaylen Henderson and Marcel Reed have shown well in limit action, and Weigman was one of the nation's top quarterbacks before he got hurt. Add in the power arm of Miles O'Neill and A&M likes what they have.

AD search should kick into gear next week
Ohio State AD-Designate Ross Bjork has given his two weeks notice (he's out Feb. 2), so A&M will likely start looking around for a replacement next week. Unlike the speedy deadline for a football coach (set by Bjork himself), this one can take a little more time. Justin Moore has been around for a long while, and the former Aggie pitcher knows the lay of the land. In fact, he could be a candidate for the permanent job.
As for names linked to the job, I've heard Florida's Scott Stricklin and Oklahoma's Joe Castiglione. And I would be shocked if either has any interest. Stricklin shot the idea down cold yesterday, and Castiglione is an OU lifer.

Coleman back tomorrow?

Forward Henry Coleman missed the Arkansas game Tuesday, which likely cost A&M the game. He missed the game with an undisclosed injury, but he didn't look physically limited. But if you recall, he took a pretty good shot to the face during the win against Kentucky Saturday and was out for a while, but returned. A&M isn't talking injuries at all, but that leads me to believe that he may have been held out due to that deal.

84 or..85?
Here's where I think the A&M roster stands in terms of scholarship players at this point. If it seems like I'm doing this every week, it's because I'm doing it every week.
