If you're in Houston (and even if you're not), use the man. When I wrecked this week, he was helping me out before the tow truck showed up.

Aggies go all out to get Shemar Stewart
One of the three remaining players still being pursed by Texas A&M for the 2022 class is 5-star DE Shemar Stewart. The Miami native has been a longtime A&M lean, but new Miami coach Mario Cristobal has made him a priority in order to boost his first class in Coral Gables. It looked like the Hurricanes had some momentum, but there’s one huge obstacle: the lack of a defensive coordinator. We’ve been told that Stewart is seriously concerned about the lack of a coordinator and the minimal amount of time he’d have to get to know one if Cristobal even makes the hire before next Wednesday.
The Aggies, in the meantime, put on the full court press Thursday night. Basically, they sent the entire coaching staff to South Florida to see Stewart and try to close the deal with him. That included DJ Durkin, so A&M clearly played the “See? We have a defensive coordinator” card with him.
It’ll be an eternity until Wednesday afternoon (Stewart will commit at 12:30 central time), but it seems momentum is back with the Aggies.
As for the other two...
The Aggies also had in-home visits this week with safety Jacoby Mathews and LB Harold Perkins. Mathews, we’re told, nearly committed to A&M during the Under Armour Game week but held off. Nobody’s sure where he’s going; it could be A&M, Florida or LSU. He’s at LSU this weekend – and so is Perkins – so I think they’ll end up with him.
As for Perkins, there’s still a sense that A&M could land him. DJ Durkin and other members of the staff went to Cy-Park and did an in-home visit with him this week – but so did Florida and LSU. Again, it’s the same three schools for him, and he’ll be in Baton Rouge this weekend. It’s anyone’s guess, but like I said, there’s still confidence he returns to A&M.
Weigman does what was expected
QB Conner Weigman is just that – QB Conner Weigman. As I said a few weeks back, he’s going to concentrate on football right now and skip the 2022 baseball season. Coach Jim Schlossnagle said today that Weigman does have a locker at Olsen Field and can work out anytime he wants, but it’s clear he won’t be a baseball player this year.
Big targets in town this weekend for Junior Day
Here’s a list of some of the recruits who will be in College Station this weekend for A&M’s junior day:
Eli Holstein
Markis Deal
David Hicks
Harris Sewell
Jordan Matthews
Anthony James
Jayvon Thomas
Malik Muhammad
Anthony Hill
Lebbeus Overton
TJ Shanahan
Colin Simmons
Kylin Jackson
Bryan Jackson
Wesley Greaves
Xavier Filsaime
Hunter Moddon
Derion Gullette
Alex January
Colton Thomasson
Two big targets are Hill and LT Overton. Hill is the best linebacker in the nation for 2023 and Overton may be the best defensive lineman. If they can get Overton (who was born in College Station), they would be closing in on being able to finish their ‘23 defensive line class in February. That would be pretty ridiculous.
Roster breakdown (to see what areas need to be targeted in 2023)
Offers:
Isaac Smith
Maxwell Carroll
Braydon Lee
Wallace Foster IV
Peyton Woodward
Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa
Marcellas Williams
Isaiah Mozee
Mario Craver
Deshon Dodson
Dakorien Moore
