Transfer portal blues
We know the Aggies are going to get drilled with this at some point. It's absolutely inevitable, even if they don't go after any more transfers. Getting down to the 85-man limit will require it. But, as of today, A&M has had the following players enter the portal:
LB Antonio Doyle
QB Zach Calzada (Auburn)
RB Deondre Jackson (Nebraska)
So how's everyone else doing? Here's a look at A&M's SEC West opponents and their two foes from the SEC East:
Alabama:
Departures--
2019 4-star LB Shane Lee
2018 2-star LB Jaylen Moody
2019 4-star QB Paul Tyson
2021 3-star CB Brylan Lanier
2019 4-star TE Jhaleel Billingsley
2018 4-star OL Tommy Brown
2020 4-star LB Drew Sanders
2020 4-star LB Jackson Bratton
2019 4-star OL Pierce Quick (Georgia Tech)
2019 4-star CB Markus Banks (Mississippi State)
Additions --
2020 5-star CB Eli Ricks (LSU)
2020 4-star RB Jahmyr Gibbs (Georgia Tech)
Alabama is losing quite a bit, which will hurt their depth. But it also cleans out space under the 85, and they added two very good players in Gibbs and Ricks. Add in Jameson Williams last year and they have been masters of the portal.
Arkansas--
2018 3-star S Joe Foucha (LSU)
2019 4-star CB Greg Brooks (LSU)
2020 4-star QB Malik Hornsby
2021 3-star DT Jalen Williams (Southern Miss)
2019 4-star CB Devin Bush
2020 3-star CB Nick Turner
2017 2-star WR Kendall Catalon
2020 3-star OL Ray Curry Jr.
2020 3-star WR Darin Turner (Alabama A&M)
2021 3-star LB Jermaine Hamilton-Turner
2020 2-star LB JT Towers
2020 3-star DT Andy Boykin
Additions--
2021 4-star DE Landon Jackson (LSU)
2019 5-star WR Jadon Haselwood (OU)
Like Alabama, Arkansas has hit on a couple of nice additions. But after losing a lot of seniors, taking this much attrition probably is not a good thing for them. Especially at linebacker.
Auburn
Departures --
2020 3-star LB Romello Height
2020 3-star DE Daniel Foster-Allen
2019 4-star CB (and West Virginia transfer) Dreshun Miller
2020 4-star WR Kobe Hudson (UCF)
2019 3-star DE Nick Curtis
2020 4-star DE Dre Butler
2021 4-star S Ahmari Harvey
2019 5-star QB Bo Nix (Oregon)
2016 2-star OL Tashawn Manning (Kentucky)
2018 4-star RB Shaun Shivers (Indiana)
2020 4-star S Ladarius Tennison (Ole Miss)
Additions--
2019 3-star QB Zach Calzada (Texas A&M)
2020 3-star DT Jayson Jones (Oregon)
Unlike Alabama, who lost players who weren't contributing, Auburn lost a lot of players who were in their two-deep. Butler was the Number 1 player in JUCO just a couple of years ago; you know about Nix and Shivers and Hudson caught 44 passes last season. 2022 is setting up for a bleak season on the Plains.
LSU
Departures--
2020 4-star CB Dwight McGlothern
2020 3-star WR Alex Adams (Akron)
2019 5-star WR Trey Palmer (Nebraska)
2021 4-star WR Deion Smith
2019 4-star QB Max Johnson (Texas A&M)
2021 4-star DE Landon Jackson (Arkansas)
2020 5-star CB Eli Ricks (Alabama)
Additions--
2018 3-star S Joe Foucha (Arkansas)
2019 4-star CB Greg Brooks (Arkansas)
2019 4-star RB Noah Cain (Penn State)
2020 2-star OL Miles Frazier (FIU)
Getting Frazier, the best OL on the market, was huge for LSU. Foucha and Brooks will start immediately and Cain should be RB1. But that's still a whole lot of talent that just walked away, and a lot of them they'll see again.
Florida
Departures--
2020 4-star LB Mahmoud Diabate (Utah)
2018 4-star WR Jacob Copeland (Maryland)
2019 4-star DE Khris Bogle (Michigan State)
2020 3-star OL Gerald Mincey (Tennessee)
Additions --
2021 3-star RB Montrell Johnson (Louisiana)
2021 OL Kamryn Waites (Louisiana)
2020 4-star QB Jack Miller (Ohio State)
You know how you know you lost good talent? When all four of your transfers quickly found landing spots. Billy Napier is going to have his work cut out for him with early departures and the loss of some guys who put up big numbers this year (Diabate and Copeland, especially).
Ole Miss
Departures--
2020 4-star RB Henry Parrish
2017 2-star RB Tylan Wright
2019 3-star OL Bryce Ramsey (Southern Miss)
2019 3-star WR Jadon Jackson
2019 3-star QB/WR John Rhys-Plumlee (UCF)
2018 3-star DT Quentin Bivens (Southern Miss)
2017 3-star OL Sincere David
2019 3-star CB Jamar Richardson (South Alabama)
2020 4-star TE Damarcus Thomas (South Alabama)
2019 3-star DT Patrick Lucas (Indiana)
2019 3-star DT LeDarrius Cox (Indiana)
2020 3-star LB Daylen Gill (Southern Miss)
2018 3-star LB Momo Sanogo (Louisville)
2018 2-star WR Brice Johnson (Houston)
Additions--
2020 5-star RB Zach Evans (TCU)
2017 3-star DB Troy Brown (Central Michigan)
2018 4-star S Isheem Young (Iowa State)
2020 3-star WR Jordan Watkins (Louisville)
2020 4-star S LaDarrius Tennison (Auburn)
14 guys in the portal. That's a lot. But the players they're getting back -- Tennison, Brown and Young, will also be starters or key parts of the secondary next season. And Evans will do...something.
Mississippi State
Departures--
2017 3-star S Landon Guidry
2020 2-star DB Kyle Cass
2019 3-star WR Quinton Torbor
2020 3-star OL Calvin McMillian (Southern Miss)
2017 3-star DL Aaron Odom (Southern Miss)
2020 3-star DT Armandous Cooley (Southern Miss)
2020 3-star S Jamari Dean (Southern Miss. No, really. This isn't a recording.)
2018 4-star LB Aaron Brule (Michigan State)
Arrivals--
2019 4-star CB Marcus Banks (Alabama)
2020 3-star CB Jackie Matthews (West Virginia)
2021 3-star WR Jordan Mosely (Northwestern)
The Bulldogs probably got two rotation corners, and possibly a starter, in the portal. But they also fed Southern Miss a bunch of guys. Losing Brule is a blow.
South Carolina
Departures--
2019 4-star TE Keveon Mullins (Jackson State)
2017 QB Jason Brown (Virginia Tech)
2019 3-star OL Vincent Murphy (Western Kentucky)
2020 3-star WR Dominick Hill
2019 3-star LB Jahmar Brown
2020 3-star WR Ger-Cari Caldwell
Additions--
2020 5-star QB Spencer Rattler (OU)
2019 4-star TE Austin Stogner (OU)
2019 3-star DE Terrell Dawkins (NC State)
2017 2-star S Devonni Reed (Central Michigan)
2018 RB Christian Beal-Smith (Wake Forest)
2020 WR Antwone Wells (James Madison)
Shane Beamer is going for it in season two, adding Rattler and Stogner to help revamp the offense. The Gamecocks haven't been hammered by as many transfers as other programs, but is still inferior talent-wise to the likes of A&M and Georgia (both on the schedule) by a lot.
