The thread on the tragic plane crash in Brazil reminded me of a flight some buddies and I took to Guatemala a few months back for a few days of offshore fishing.
When we were landing at Guatemala International (imagine that) the pilot got down to about 10' above the runway then just slammed the plane down and put the breaks/reverse on so hard if we had not been wearing seatbelts we would have hit the bulkhead in front of us. When de-barking the plane I made the comment to the steward standing by the door, "That was fun!". His reply was, "They are both ex-naval pilots. They bounce planes in every airport around." That is exactly what I would think landing on a carrier is like trying to hook the cable.
