Jimbo Fisher came close to stealing elite recruit away from LSU before early signing day

When new Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher left Louisiana after a recent recruiting trip, the Aggies appeared to be on the verge of landing one of the nation's top recruits, according to a report.

A recent feature from the Baton Rouge Advocate details Fisher's pursuit of 5-star wide receiver Terrace Marshall in the weeks leading up to the early signing period on Dec. 20.

Marshall ultimately signed with LSU. But how close did the Aggies come to signing Marshall?

"When Jimbo left, I thought they had him," Marshall Sr. told The Advocate.

Fisher apparently put on a full-court press as he tried to make a big splash in his first few weeks on the job. According to the feature, Fisher did everything from visiting Marshall's mother's workplace to eating chicken on the floor of Terrace Sr.'s barber shop.

The late push wasn't enough to keep Marshall from staying in LSU.

However, according to the story, the late push from Fisher is an encouraging sign moving forward.

For the Aggies to win the championships they expect during Fisher's tenure, they'll need to be able to pull recruits like Marshall away from SEC West rivals like LSU.

I highly suggested clicking here to read the full feature from The Advocate.
