1) The only place that the constitution mentions the issue in in Article 1 Section 2 where representation is based upon head count of citizens plus 3/5 per head of slaves. Got it!

But ...

The rights enumerated in the Bill of Rights make no mention of the so called 3/5 person. They are rights of all.

2) the constitution defines the way to change the constitution by Amendment, See Bill of Rights.

3) The constitution was amended (13, 14, 15) to abolish slavery, grant citizenship and rights to slaves ( or former slaves).


So, I get it ... when the country was formed we had slavery, but the Constitution provides the framework of freedoms and mechanism for change.

Travster perhaps you cut the same class as Tannihill. The first sentence is the foundation of the country. That is the goal to which we have striven and strive for yet. Are you just upset that we didn't create a "perfect" union by today's values at the very beginning.?

I take pride in how we have moved towards that goal.
 
No, Representation does not mean that a rights are abridged. Yes, I get it ... tell that to a slave. But the issue is that country was formed wrongly. It was not. It was imperfect at the time and became what it is using the principles constructed in the Constitution. I say it was perfect in creation but imperfection is in the governed.

Dude, it’s pretty clear that the country had some racist ideas in its forming, the 3/5 thing is only one example. Yes, it was imperfect and based on the principles of the time. Those principles just happened to be racist. Both things can be true.

Yeah, that little Civil War and the Constitutional Amendments did such a great job there had to be a Civil Rights Act of 1964 that still didn't get it done. How many times have you been stopped for being white (I am assuming) because "you fit the description ..." and searched and questioned? And you think you are tired of it?

Where did I say “we’re done”? I’m saying the framework for change is good and has served us well over the years.

I find it amusing how the dems on here like to throw out vague arguments without backup data like how many times have you been pulled over by cops. I would guess that young men regardless of race are disproportionately pulled over but who knows without data that shows who and why people are pulled over. Facts don't care about your feelings. This hatred of cops has got to stop.
 
When I was younger and was pulled over I thought I was profiled I just didn't know I should have blamed it on race rather than my youth!
 
Yea I’m as white as the wind-driven snow, yet forgot to blame race when stopped in my neighborhood for

“appearance of accelerating too fast near a school zone”
which was 1/2 mile away..

I received a verbal warning and a reminder that my vehicle registration expires next month.

Quick question. Are you still outraged at the hundreds of countries across the globe that do not have a Bill of Rights and still have open slavery today? They’re all across the continent of Africa and South America alone. Are those countries next in your ire or just the one who fought a civil war, elect leaders of all races and genders, created the best opportunity for all races and genders, has people from all over the globe who can’t speak the language dying to become citizens and when they get here become a success, and had it written into the original founding documents the framework to once and for all get rid of slavery? Or is it just the country where you were able to get a college degree and likely become a success that you don’t like? Is it the country or the citizens you don’t like? What about out constitution and Bill of Rights do you want to change?

For the same reason as most everyone else? Economic opportunity compared to from where they’d like to leave?

Still, you honed down to the correct group of Africans which should be wary absent the economic angle. Obviously white Africans have no worries on that front.
