I have been told by a couple of people in the know that the search is not anywhere close to down to Elko and Traylor and there are candidates nobody's talking about right now. When I said that we had talked about DeBoer, I did not get a response.
Now, I'm totally spitballing here, but going off the checklist set out by Ross Bjork, that could include Jonathan Smith at Oregon State (44 years old, 18-5 (11-5 Pac-12) over the past two seasons) and maybe Matt Rhule at Nebraska. I was sort of surprised to see Rhule is only 48. I'm not saying these are the other guys, just that they fit at least some of the parameters.
Anyway, barring someone leaking names, we probably won't have an truly clearer picture until the weekend.
Oh, and it definitely seems like any buzz around Schumann has died off.
UPDATE: A&M has started interviews via Zoom. Don’t have names, but know they’re happening.
